Affair in the Square brings artisans to Medina on Sunday

MEDINA — About 175 artisans will fill Medina's square on Sunday, offering handcrafted items during the 34th annual Affair on the Square. The event spotlights crafters and artisans as they sell their homemade items. With the large number of vendors participating, the event has a wide range of products, including jewelry, ceramics, woodworking pieces and baked goods. Additionally, the event features vendors selling vintage items like clothing, decor and refurbished vintage pieces. "It started just as a small craft show and has just kept growing and growing since then," organizer Linda Loveless said. There are 181 spaces plotted out throughout Medina's square and on Broadway Street. Loveless said that for the last several years, the spaces have filled up by April. "We can't possibly fit any more in without people being on top of each other," Loveless said. Besides the wide range of vendors to visit, Loveless said there will be eight food trucks parked along Broadway Street for people to grab a bite to eat. Some of the food options include gourmet grilled cheese from Cheezy Weezy, pizza cones from East Koast Konz and artisan ice cream on a stick from Pop Culture. In the gazebo, the Victor Samalot Duo will perform Latin groove and jazz instrumentals from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Then, from 2:30 to 5 p.m., classic pop-rock artists Parsons and Polk will cover artists like Neil Diamond, Jimmy Buffett and James Taylor. As people head out to the event, Loveless encourages them to make a parking plan. "There's a lot of parking spots around the square," she said. "You may have to walk a block or two, but it'll be worth it." To make it easier for people, Loveless has provided a map including the available parking lots online at www.affaironthesquare.net, and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/AnAffairOnTheSquareCraftFest. Both pages also include a list of all participating vendors and what they will offer, as well as a map that shows where each vendor will be set up. "My goal is to have every vendor happy for the day and that makes me happy," Loveless said. "If they're selling well, then they're going to be happy and I'll be happy."
