Notes: Andrew Berry calls Shedeur Sanders' speeding tickets 'just not smart'

BEREA — When general manager Andrew Berry talked to rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders about a pair of speeding tickets he received, he stressed slowing down would not only better protect Sanders, but those around him.Within a two-week span last month, Sanders was cited for going 91 mph in a 65 mph zone and 101 mph in a 60 mph zone.Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco talk drive to win starting job, handling the uncertainty, how they spent their summer breaks"Not smart, just not smart, and it's something that we've addressed with him," Berry said Thursday. "He understands the implications, he understands the consequences. I think the thing is it's not just about yourself. It's not just about having a joy ride. It's not just about driving a car really fast, but it's about the fact that you can endanger other people. It's about the fact that if a deer or someone cuts out in front of you, like your reaction time."It's just dangerous and it's not something that we want our guys to be doing. It's not something that they should be doing. And the No. 1 reason is because we don't want some type of catastrophic accident. He's always been listed at 6-foot-8, 374 pounds."He's obviously working to get his body in better shape and he's coming into camp in good shape and it's just going to be a consistency play-to-play battle," left guard Joel Bitonio said. "I think he's a lot more comfortable than he was when he was asked to play last year. I think he's a guy, you see flashes all the time. There's some great plays and for him we've talked about just the consistency.
