Andrew Berry says organization still gathering information regarding Quinshon Judkins' arrest, not ready to speculate on potential return to team

BEREA — General manager Andrew Berry said the Browns aren't ready to make any decisions regarding rookie running back Quinshon Judkins as they continue to gather information following his domestic violence arrest July 12 in Florida.Berry spoke to reporters Thursday before the second practice of training camp. He's accused of punching his girlfriend in the chin, arm and leg while in a car."I'd start by saying that any time not just a player but a member of your organization is involved in a legal situation, and particularly one that involves allegations of domestic violence, you lose a ton of sleep over it," Berry said. "You lose a ton of sleep over it not just because of the seriousness of the allegations, but also because of the amount of time and energy you spend really vetting any person who comes into your organization. And then probably for us, in the past two years in particular, the amount of time and resources we spent on the education part of it with not just with our players but with our whole organization."Judkins remains unsigned and the team has hit pause on the situation."We're still gathering information," Berry said. "Sometimes that process occurs quickly. Sometimes the information comes a little bit more slowly."He said it was "to be determined" whether the legal situation must be resolved before Judkins is signed to a four-year rookie contract. Berry was asked if not signing him and letting him go was a possibility."I have learned in many of these off-field situations not to go too far into the future," he said. "We'll deal with the day-to-day. You end up using a lot of mental energy in terms of hypotheticals and things of that nature. Rather, we will focus on getting the information and then making the right decision."** Judkins is the third Browns player arrested in the last year following a domestic incident. Defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. was suspended last year for the first five games of his rookie year, and linebacker Devin Bush's case is working its way through the court system in Pennsylvania.Berry said they've increased the education to players regarding domestic violence, including bringing in speakers the last two offseasons. "Like any process, you always look to refine it, you always look to improve it."One thing that we've learned is with domestic violence issues, there's no target population, target demographic, target history. "He understands the implications, he understands the consequences. I think the thing is it's not just about yourself. It's not just about having a joy ride. It's not just about driving a car really fast, but it's about the fact that you can endanger other people. It's about the fact that if a deer or someone cuts out in front of you, like your reaction time."It's just dangerous and it's not something that we want our guys to be doing. It's not something that they should be doing. And the No. 1 reason is because we don't want some type of catastrophic accident.
