High school baseball: Buckeye's Mike Wolf resigns

YORK TWP. — Now 66 years old and having been a varsity baseball coach for six seasons at Buckeye and 19 overall, Mike Wolf announced Tuesday he was stepping down as Bucks coach. "It's time for me to step away," Wolf wrote in a resignation letter. "This program has meant everything to me — not because of wins or records, but because of the young men I had the privilege to coach and grow alongside. Watching them mature, lead and push past what they thought was possible has been the most rewarding part of this journey." Wolf compiled a 108-52 record in six seasons at Buckeye, plus the 2020 COVID-canceled season. Overall, he was 326-168 in 19 seasons as a head coach. In what turned out to be Wolf's final season, the Bucks won the Cleveland West Conference championship and reached the Division III district finals. Buckeye also won Great Lakes Conference East Division and overall titles in 2023. "Together, we built a culture rooted in toughness, accountability and belief — a standard that was carried every day through effort, attitude and brotherhood," Wolf wrote. "What started as a vision became something real thanks to the players who bought in and made it their own. "To the Buckeye community, families and administration, thank you for the unwavering support and love you showed our team. You gave these boys a home to play for and a legacy to be proud of. I'll always be grateful for the relationships, the memories and the pride we shared in wearing 'Buckeye' across our chests." Having resigned as coach, Wolf plans to spend his free time with his grandchildren, though he certainly hasn't ruled out watching Buckeye play from time to time.
