Buckeye presents proposed capital improvement plan for next five years

YORK TWP. — Buckeye Schools developed a capital improvement plan for the next five years to act as the district's roadmap for potential future projects. Director of Operations John Justice presented the plan to the board of education during its meeting Tuesday. The building assessment from CPL Architects and Engineers Inc. allowed the district to formulate its plan, Justice said. Capital improvements are larger projects that happen on top of daily maintenance. "It's a living document," he said. "We have a plan in place now, but this will continue to evolve. All these things really are based off of the needs that come up." Projects for fiscal year 2025 are already underway, Justice said. The total estimated costs for this year's projects is around $2.7 million, and the biggest cost is the first phase of paving installation and repair around Buckeye's campus at around $1.1 million. The following are the other projects for fiscal year 2025: Technology purchases Phase two of elementary school roof replacement Elementary school HVAC replacement and repairs Playground replacement and repairs School bus purchase Maintenance truck replacement Fencing replacement and repairs Repairs to gym bleachers, hoop systems and curtains Concrete repairs Door safety installation and repairs A maintenance and custodial grounds vehicle District and classroom furniture Landscaping repairs Junior high school and alumni stadium roof repairs Elementary school generator repairs Drywall repairs and junior high school classroom refurbishment High school bell system replacement Painting, striping and sealing fieldhouse metal doors Another phase for the elementary school roof replacement and paving around the campus is anticipated in fiscal year 2026. Other proposed projects include making improvements to cafeterias and assessing electrical and plumbing systems across the district. The remainder of the proposed projects were spread across fiscal year 2027 to fiscal year 2030. District paving, roof repair and making improvements to and around athletic fields were included as potential projects. "Many of these projects, not only have we talked about them for many years, they're going to last decades and decades," board member Seth Kujat said.
