Road closure on North Elmwood Avenue to go until Friday

MEDINA — Construction crews will replace and upgrade the water main around a portion of Medina's square this summer. The current road closure is on North Elmwood Avenue from West Liberty Street to West Friendship Street. Work will occur on the north side of the intersection of West Liberty Street and North Elmwood Avenue. The closure period for this area started on Tuesday and will continue until 5 p.m. Friday. Detours and barricades will be set up and maintained throughout the closure period. North Huntington Street and North Court Street should be used as alternative routes during the closure. Local access to Medina City Hall and the Medina Municipal Court will be maintained from West Friendship Street. Work is weather-dependent and may be postponed if weather conditions dictate. The construction is part of a larger water main project that includes West Liberty Street, from Court Street to Elmwood Avenue, and West Washington Street. Work will continue further west on West Washington Street for several blocks. The entire project is estimated to take about three months, and traffic will be maintained for most of the project. Medina Engineer Patrick Patton previously said the water line is more than 80 years old. The project aims to replace aging pipes and increase the size of the water main for better flow and redundancy. The cost for the entire project is around $1 million, and about $510,000 will be paid through a zero-interest loan from the Ohio Public Works Commission.
