Brunswick Hills looking to move forward with potential fiscal officer candidate after third person resigns from the position this year

BRUNSWICK HILLS TWP. — Brunswick Hills Township announced its intention to soon fill its fiscal officer position once again after a third fiscal officer resigned from the role this year. Trustee Ryan Nixon said Lisa James was appointed as fiscal officer on April 23. James sent an email to the trustees announcing her intention to resign from the position effective May 30. James referred to the time requirements for the position in her resignation email, and she mentioned that she has other family commitments and responsibilities. "First and foremost, the trustees want to thank the residents for their patience and understanding during this period of transition," Nixon said. "The recent turnover in the fiscal officer position is not something we take lightly. This role comes with a steep learning curve, and it requires many hours of dedicated work before one can fully master the responsibilities involved." Ellen Young was selected to step in when the township does not have a fiscal officer, he said. She will continue with the role until a new fiscal officer is appointed. Brunswick Hills has a potential candidate to fill the role. Nixon said the township will have more information regarding that during its June 24 trustees meeting. "We recognize the importance of consistency and expertise in this position, and we're committed to supporting the office so that it can operate smoothly and effectively," he said. "Our priority moving forward is to maintain stability (and) ensure a smooth transition to a new fiscal officer." Barb Thomas served as fiscal officer before James in March. In her resignation, Thomas said she did not anticipate the hours that she put in with the position. Prior to Thomas, Linda Kuenzer was the fiscal officer. She resigned on March 3 and said she had a lack of support from the township. She was elected as fiscal officer in November 2023 after running unopposed. To remain fiscal officer, whomever is appointed would need to run in the general election to fill the remainder of the term.
