Brunswick's economy is remaining stable, according to economic update from the city

BRUNSWICK — Brunswick Economic Development Director Grant Aungst said the economy inBrunswick is "remaining stable" with consistent home sales and new businesses entering the market. Aungst presented an economic update for the city during a Brunswick City Council meeting Monday. The current median price for homes in Brunswick is between $339,000 and $349,000, he said. Homes tend to sell for around $302,000, which is a 6 percent increase from last year. "That's a big jump, so that's a good thing," Aungst said. National Boiler Works is an example of a new business entering Brunswick. He said the company will be building its new 43,000-square-foot headquarters on West 130th Street. "We're excited about that because that's 35 to 45 new full-time jobs, high-paying jobs," Aungst said. Crunch Fitness, Drug Mart, Ducati Motorcycles, Panda Express and 7 Brew Coffee among other businesses are also working toward opening a new location in the city, he said. "We do remain a really strong location for businesses," Aungst said. "We still get inquiries all the time." There is transition going on within Brunswick's industrial parks because the owners are getting older and are reaching a point where it is time to sell their business and retire. He said it is part of the normal business cycle. "New owners will come in, and they'll infuse the business with new cash, new ideas and new drive with the plan of hopefully growing the business," Aungst said. "We're also seeing a few of them that may decide to simply consolidate, close or maybe move on to other things." Industrial businesses in the city are currently very solid, but they are being mindful of potential tariffs, he said. "Should those tariffs go in, we'll probably see a bit of a slowdown because prices will increase on all products, domestic as well," Aungst said. "I've had lots of discussions with the manufacturers here in our town. I've had lots of discussions with congressmen and senatorial offices.
