Third phase of Plum Creek Greenway Trail officially opens

BRUNSWICK — Brunswick residents can now walk and bike the entire length of the Plum Creek Greenway Trail from Plum Creek Park to Brunswick Lake. Brunswick city officials celebrated the third phase of the trail opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday. "Everything we're celebrating today is the fact that a lot of people worked together to do something really nice for this community," Vice Mayor Nick Hanek said. "Each step represents hundreds upon hundreds of those hours of everything we did, top to bottom, for the people of this community." Phase three connected the existing trailhead parking lot at Laurel Road to Brunswick Lake and added a short connector trail from Brunswick Lake to the north end of Eisenhower Drive. In May 2024, Brunswick City Council entered into an agreement with Marks Construction for $963,000 for the third phase of the project. Medina County Park District Director Nate Eppink said the entire trail, park to park, is a little under 2.5 miles each way. Medina County residents have indicated to the park district their interest in longer trails. "It's also a great connector from households to retail, restaurants and shops," he said. The entire greenway trail is accessible to people of all abilities since every section has less than a 5 percent grade, Eppink said. It is a completely asphalt path that can be used by walkers, cyclists and people using mobility aids. "It's a great addition to the park district and a great amenity for the folks here in Medina County," he said. Brunswick City Manager Carl DeForest said he believes the greenway trail is one of the greatest things the city has ever done. "It's great to have your kids and your grandkids come down here and see the smiles on people's faces and know that this is going to be here for the next couple decades for enjoyment," he said.
