Beware of scammers claiming to be the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles has received reports of a possible texting scam in which scammers claim to be from the Ohio BMV. The text messages allege that recipients have an outstanding traffic ticket, and it instructs recipients to pay immediately to avoid a license suspension. The scam is a phishing attempt that is being reported by drivers nationwide and is designed to trick residents into giving up personal or financial information. "If you receive this text, do not fall for this scam," Ohio BMV Registrar Charlie Norman said. "Do not click any links and delete the text. Ohio BMV will never send you a text demanding payment or requesting personal information." Ohioans can report scam attempts to the Federal Trade Commission by visiting reportfraud.ftc.gov. Those who believe they are a victim of the scam should contact their local law enforcement agency. Teacher boot camp connects educators and local businesses A group of 11 Medina County teachers spent the first week of June touring 10 local manufacturers. The program was organized by the Medina County Economic Development Corporation and hosted by the Medina County Career Center. A grant from the Governor's Office of Workforce Transformation that funded the Medina County Manufacturing Partnership allowed the economic development corporation to hire Roger Wright to oversee the professional development course. Teachers met with manufacturers to learn about workforce skill gaps to create real-world lesson plans to help students start their careers. The Medina County Port Authority received approximately $2.1 million for cleanup and remediation of the brickyard in Wadsworth. Activities include demolishing seven deteriorated structures, removing contaminated soil and capping certain areas with clean fill or engineered parking surfaces. The site will be redeveloped as a regional park featuring trails, ponds and athletic fields. Buckeye High School Alumni Association yearly luncheon reunion The Buckeye High School Alumni Association will have its yearly luncheon reunion called, "50 Years and Beyond." It will be held at Vell's Event Center at 11 a.m. on Aug. 13. The cost is $40, and hall of fame inductees Brian Neff and Jack Dunkle will be honored. The deadline for reservations is July 20.
