Folk and Flora Fest coming to the Medina Square this Sunday

MEDINA — Black Cat Books and Oddities is looking to combine nature with the whimsical, the magical and the fantastic at its Folk and Flora Fest at the Medina Square on Sunday. Black Cat co-owner Alicia Hoisington Frazier said the event, which runs from noon to 5 p.m., is free to enter and family-friendly. Folk music will be a large feature of the event. She said it will allow guests who are not familiar with folk music to explore the genre. The following bands will perform throughout the day in the gazebo: Upstream Drifters from 12:30 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. Sugar Miles from 1:30 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. Rustic Skies from 2:30 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. The Wildwoods from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. "We all love folk music, so we thought why not bring some great folk bands to the square for the community to enjoy," Hoisington Frazier said. Throughout the day, there will be food trucks and more than 50 vendors on the square. "(The event) highlights a lot of our businesses around the square," Hoisington Frazier said. "It brings new people into Medina and gets them looking around and seeing what Medina has to offer. It also helps support some of our smaller businesses, like the local makers." Guests are encouraged to bring a home-baked pie of any flavor to the event for the chance to win a prize worth $100 from Black Cat. The contest will run from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., there will be fairy tea parties. At the adult tea party, participants will receive free tea samples from The Raven's Cup. There will be a mini tea party for kids on lawn blankets. Adults can also visit the flower crown station, see a professional wood carving demonstration and go on a rock scavenger hunt for discounts and prizes. The pot planting station and the wood flower bouquet station have a fee associated with it. Children can try soil sensory bins, paint rocks, dance around the maypole and get their face painted at the event. "It's an event for all ages, so we really encourage families to come out," Hoisington Frazier said. "We have activities for everyone."
