Families get out and fish with the Medina County Park District

GUILFORD TWP. — Families were able to fish together at Hubbard Valley Park through the Medina County Park District's "Family (Get Out & Fish) Fishing Day," program on Sunday. MCPD Naturalist Mark Ludwig said Hubbard Valley Park, which has a 21-acre lake, is one of the many fishing spots in the park district. The park is located at 8600 Hubbard Valley Road. "It's all a part of the Get Out and Fish program," Ludwig said. "It's about trying to encourage families, people, whoever to get out and fish." The park district's "Get Out and Fish" program takes place across several months, starting in March and ending June 19. The self-guided program allows participants to explore the various fishing locations throughout the park district, with participants receiving an award after visiting five or more fishing locations. Ludwig said having people get outside is one of the main goals of the program. "Even if they don't catch fish, it doesn't matter, we just want people to get outside because there is a positive aspect to being outside," he said." There's a positive outlook and there's the healing power of nature." The program encourages people to get away from the hustle and bustle by going outside, fishing and relaxing. On Sunday, Ludwig and other volunteers helped kids and families who didn't have much experience fishing. He said sometimes the event may be the first time someone has ever fished before so the program includes time for education and lessons from local fishers. The park district has several fishing locations where a fishing license is not needed. They include: Brunswick Lake, 1473 Parschen Road Buckeye Woods, 6335 Wedgewood Road Carolyn Ludwig Mugrage Park, 4985 Windfall Road Hubbard Valley Park, 8600 Hubbard Valley Road Killbuck Lakes, 7996 White Road Lake Medina, 3733 Granger Road Letha House Park West, 5800 Richman Road Plum Creek Park North, 2390 Plum Creek Parkway Plum Creek Park South, 2500 Plum Creek Parkway River Styx Park, 8200 River Styx Road The "Get Out and Fish" program goes through June 19.
