Cool Beans celebrates one month of being open in Brunswick with ribbon-cutting

BRUNSWICK — Cars driving by honked in celebration as Cool Beans Cafe celebrated its first month of being open in Brunswick with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday. Owner Laura Cavey initially opened Cool Beans on the Medina square in 2010 because she had the desire to be a part of the square and the community. "I always wanted to be in business for myself," she said. "I always wanted to have complete control over my own destiny." Cool Beans sells a variety of drinks, desserts and breakfast and lunch options. Cavey said originally the Brunswick location was going to sell just coffee and baked goods, but the plan changed. "We brought the entire menu up here, so we serve everything that we have in Medina," she said. "When we announced we were coming to Brunswick, there were so many Facebook comments saying 'We can't wait for your food,' that we actually changed our trajectory and our plan." A new addition to the menu will come on May 1. Cavey said Cool Beans will start selling popping boba, tapioca boba and milk teas. Boba can also be added to other drinks. The Brunswick location has a different setup than in Medina. In Brunswick, patrons can order through the drive-thru, the walk-up window or place an online order that can be picked up in the vestibule on the side of the store. "COVID showed us that the drive-thru is kind of where it's at, so we're excited about this new concept," Cavey said. "It's been going great, and we've had a good response from customers. We're nice and busy, so that tells you we did something okay." Earlier this month, the "S" on the Cool Beans sign went missing after a storm, which caused community members on Facebook to make joking posts about where the "S" could be. She said she thinks it's amazing that people were having fun with it. "That just shows the caliber of the community for people to all get involved out of something so silly, especially the businesses that got involved," Cavey said. "That just shows me the community is here too, and it goes to show that all small businesses are there to support each other. I think that's very important."
