Hinckley planning improvements at town hall ahead of bicentennial

HINCKLEY TWP. — The Hinckley Township Board of Trustees approved proceeding with some renovations at town hall ahead of the township's coming bicentennial celebration. On Tuesday, the trustees approved Ivanov Construction LLC to remove the glass wall and door and to prep the wall for painting in the administration office in the town hall. The cost is not to exceed $1,750. "This half wall and glass partition over here, we're going to have removed so that when people walk in, they actually know they can go into the administrative offices," Trustee Monique Ascherl said. The trustees also selected Zufall Do-It-All to paint the inside of town hall, the senior room and the front watch office at the fire department for a cost not to exceed $12,000. Trustee Jack Swedyk said the township received multiple quotes, and the price was reasonable considering the amount of work. "I'm assuming (painting) was probably along the same time frame that the carpet was laid, and I just found out today it's been about 20 years for the carpet," Ascherl said. "So, it's probably about 20 years that it's been updated. It's held up, but it's definitely time to clean it up, especially since we have a big celebration here this year." Inside town hall, there is limited wall space left for citizen of the year photos, Ascherl said. The township is instead considering using the wall space for a 200-year timeline of Hinckley, which has around 20 to 25 historic moments plotted. Citizen of the year photos would be returned to their families. "I already started looking at acrylic images and started to price some of that stuff out, so (I'm) hoping that's going to be done in time for summer," she said. "I think that's important to everyone in the township, knowing the history." State Rep. Sharon Ray, R-Wadsworth, recently presented a bicentennial resolution from the statehouse to the township. On Tuesday, the trustees agreed to donate the resolution to the Hinckley Historical Society to display at the celebration in July.
