Mexican restaurant Tlaquepaque officially opens in Brunswick

BRUNSWICK — After 15 years of experience in the restaurant industry, Juan Gurubel is bringing his spin on Mexican cuisine to Brunswick. The Northern Medina County Chamber Alliance held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for his restaurant, Tlaquepaque, on Thursday. "The name of this restaurant pays homage to the vibrant city in Mexico, which is renowned for its rich cultural history, beautiful arts and crafts and warm, charming atmosphere," Chamber Executive Director Debbie Boehmke said. "As you step inside, you're going to see how Juan and his team have brought the spirit of that city here to Brunswick." Gurubel's wife, Brenda Gonzalez, said she first became involved in the Brunswick community when she joined the "You know you're from Brunswick if…" Facebook group as she was working for the Mexican restaurant that used to be at 3329 Center Road. She and Gurubel later noticed the restaurant was closing, so they decided to open a new restaurant in the same spot. "Juan and his dedicated staff are committed to offering an authentic yet innovative dining experience," Boehmke said. "We are thrilled to welcome you to Brunswick, and we look forward to the great food and warm hospitality that I know you and your staff will bring." Tlaquepaque opened two weeks ago to a positive community response, and it has been steadily busy, Gonzalez said. "We actually have a grill imported from Spain, which cooks all the meat very tender," she said. "We use that meat for our fajitas and our tacos, and it has become very popular so far. It's been a big hit." Gonzalez said their hope for the future of Tlaquepaque is to stay within the community. "We hope that it all works out for us, but we need all of the Brunswick community's support," she said. "We'll see where it takes us. So far, it's going well, and we hope it continues that way."
