Highland High School names October student of the month Highland High School senior Allison Ricco was selected as the student of the month for October. Ricco takes five advanced placement classes. She is also a leader in several extracurricular clubs. She serves as the president of the National Art Honors Society, officer of communications in the National Honors Society and business editor of the yearbook club. She is the pledge leader of the morning announcements and an executive member of Volunteering Opportunities For Teens. Ricco is the daughter of Misty and Charles Ricco of Medina. She plans to attend college and major in education. Medina County Historical Society holiday open house The Medina County Historical Society will hold its first holiday open house of the season at the McDowell-Phillips House Museum at 205 S. Prospect St. in Medina. It will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, with the last tour starting at 3:30 p.m. The museum will be decorated in the holiday spirit. Attendees are asked to not park on Blake Avenue. Admission donation prices are $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, $7 for youths 7 to 18 and children younger than 7 are free with a hand-holding adult. Historic Medina Symphony and Symphonia of the Western Reserve fall concert The Historic Medina Symphony and Symphonia of the Western Reserve will have a free fall concert at 2 p.m. Sunday. Shirley Ann Walker will be conducting, and the group will perform selections including "The Nutcracker" and "Bohemian Rhapsody." Medina County construction updates State Route 18 between state Route 83 and Bryenton Road will have single-lane closures for 225 days to complete project work. Traffic will be maintained by temporary traffic signals. Lane widths will be reduced to 12 feet during construction, and the estimated completion date of this season's work is in November. Interstate 271 from Interstate 71 to the Summit County line will have intermittent lane closures for a resurfacing project. Lane widths will be reduced to 12 feet through the work zone.
