Brunswick student looking to honor veterans with Eagle Scout project

BRUNSWICK — A Brunswick resident is looking for community support in his mission to honor veterans through his Eagle Scout project. Jaxon Fronsee is a ninth grader at Brunswick High School and part of Boy Scout Troop 518. His mom, Chantal Fronsee, said to become an Eagle Scout, Boy Scouts have to get the required 21 eagle merit badges. Once they achieve the badges, they can do their Eagle Scout project. "(To become an Eagle Scout), it takes knowing what you're doing, and it takes being a good leader," Jaxon said. Chantal Fronsee said Jaxon has worked closely with veterans in the past, and his scoutmaster is involved in the Veterans of Freign Wars in Brunswick. "That is kind of how he gained his interest in helping veterans and trying to get them as much recognition as they deserve," she said. His project involves making bases to display two sets of military flags, which will eventually go to Brunswick City Hall and Brunswick High School. "I chose to honor veterans in this way because I have seen examples of flags being done elsewhere, but I've only seen one or two sets within Brunswick and within Medina County," Jaxon Fronsee said. "I'm looking for more public usage for these as opposed to private." The estimated cost for flags, poles, bases, engraved name plates and a protective bag per set is $2,000. He said the community can contribute to his project with a $20 donation, which will put a veteran's name, rank and what branch they served on a plaque, which will be placed onto the flag stand of the corresponding branch. List the name of the veteran with the payment, and include if there is a preference for the location of the nameplate. The goal is to complete the project before Christmas, Jaxon said. Whatever funds are leftover from the project will be donated to programs for veterans. "The idea for this project more so sprang from my desire to do something with veterans," Jaxon said. "I knew what I wanted to do, and I just had to find a good way to interpret it. I wanted to see more military representation in my community, so I felt this would be a good way to do it."
