Juveniles arrested after allegedly making threats against Buckeye Local Schools

YORK TWP. — The Medina County Sheriff's Office determined Buckeye Local Schools are safe following the arrest of two juveniles who allegedly made threats against the district. Sheriff's Office Captain Kris Conwill said the sheriff's office investigated two separate incidents. The first occurred on Sept. 21, he said. An 11-year-old Buckeye student allegedly made "concerning statements" using an electronic device. It was brought to the attention of law enforcement, and the 11-year-old was arrested for inducing panic and making terroristic threats after an investigation. The second incident occurred on Thursday in which a 13-year-old Buckeye student was arrested for inducing panic after allegedly making "concerning statements" while using an electronic device, Conwill said. After being arrested, both students were taken to the Medina County Juvenile Detention Center. He said the situation was mitigated in both cases. "At this point in time, we have no concern for any of the activities that are going on relative to the school environment," Conwill said. He encouraged Buckeye parents to review any communications that were already sent out by the district regarding the incidents. "We believe Buckeye is in a normal state of business," Conwill said. "We continue to have our school resource officer present daily and involved with the school administration." Buckeye Superintendent Jeff Stanton said the district worked with local authorities, and there was never a verified threat to the campus. "We have been safe," he said. "We would never have students or staff here if we weren't safe. We take safety, as all school districts do, incredibly seriously." If someone sees a threat against school safety on social media, they should immediately contact school officials or law enforcement, Conwill said. "In all cases, there is not a need to share the information again via social media," he said. "Most often, the shares are incorrect and further push false or inaccurate information."
