Lorain County WIC clinic relocating to Cooper Foster Park Road in Amherst as of Oct. 1

Lorain County Public Health announced that starting Oct. 1, the Lorain County Women, Infants, and Children or WIC program will begin serving clients at a new location: 2001 Cooper Foster Park Road in Amherst. The new and improved facility will replace the current Lorain site, and offer better services to WIC participants, the public health agency said. It was carefully selected to better serve the community. The new location has better accessibility, ample parking, and a more spacious environment. It aims to create a welcoming and convenient space for families in need of WIC services, Public Health officials said. Health Commissioner Mark Adams called the relocation "a positive step toward making sure moms, babies and children get the best possible nutrition." "This new facility will allow us to continue our commitment to serve and support Lorain County. We look forward to providing even more effective services in this improved setting," Adams said in a news release. "We're excited that the new clinic site is near three grocery stores that accept WIC vouchers. This will make it easier for clients to access nutritious foods to give their families a healthy start," Marissa Wayner, director of Lorain County WIC, said in the news release. WIC is a federal program that provides essential nutrition education, healthy food, breastfeeding support, connections to community resources, and support to pregnant people, up to six months postpartum and up to age 5. Lorain County WIC is operated through and staffed by Lorain County Public Health. Services are available at two sites: 9880 Murray Ridge Road in Elyria, and — as of Oct. 1 — 2001 Cooper Foster Park Road in Amherst. Both locations can be accessed using Via Lorain County, the county's new microtransit van service.
