Eleven athletes, one coach latest inductees into Wadsworth hall

Eleven former athletes and one former coach will be inducted into the Wadsworth Sports Hall of Fame on Sept. 28 at The Galaxy Restaurant in Wadsworth. To be inducted are Aimee (Bassett) Bates, Lindsay (Tenyak) Berger, Amy (Cavanaugh) Cramer, Rachel (Goddard) Halicki, Tara (Leahy) McCoy, Taylor (Woods) McKenzie, Jeff Cerveny, Brad Moser, Jack Snowball, Kagan Squire, Nick Tavanello and former football coach Greg Dennison. Aimee (Bassett) Bates Bates was a four-year starter on the softball team before playing at Kent State. While at Wadsworth, she was a two-time Division I All-Ohio outfielder (2006 2nd team, 2007 1st team), becoming the only two-time selection from Wadsworth. She holds school records for season batting average (.520), career batting average (.372), doubles in a season (16) and career (33), and home runs in a season (6) and career (14). Lindsay (Tenyak) Berger Berger was a three-year letterwinner in volleyball, where she earned All-Suburban League, All-Gazette and all-district honors. She really excelled in basketball, where she was a first-team All-SL and All-Gazette player. Berger was an All-Northeast Inland District and All-Ohio performer and the Gazette MVP in 2009. She moved on to Ashland, where she is third in season 3-pointers (66) and played on the 2012 NCAA D-II national runner-up team and the 2013 national championship team. Amy (Cavanaugh) Cramer Cramer was a four-year soccer starter before graduating in 1996. In each of her last three seasons, she was All-SL, All-Gazette, All-Greater Akron District and All-Ohio on her way to earning 21 career shutouts. She continued her career at D-I Valparaiso University, where she is a member of that school's athletic hall of fame after setting the school record with 620 career saves and setting the conference season record with 224 saves in 1997. Her 620 career saves are seventh in NCAA D-I history. Rachel (Goddard) Halicki Halicki graduated in 2013 after stellar careers in basketball and volleyball. She was a two-time Gazette MVP while also earning All-Ohio in 2013. She earned two more letters and was an All-Suburban League and all-district player in volleyball. She continued her basketball career at Malone, where she was a three-time All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference/All-Great-Midwest Athletic Conference selection and led the Pioneers to their first NCAA D-II Tournament berth. Tara (Leahy) McCoy McCoy earned 10 varsity letters, including four each in swimming and in track and field. On the track, she earned All-Ohio honors three times — as a member of the 2005 4x100-meter relay and 2006 4x2 and 4x4 — and helped set the school record in the 4x1. As a swimmer, she set school records in the 50-yard freestyle, 100 free, 200 free relay and 400 free relay. Taylor (Woods) McKenzie McKenzie finished her basketball career in 2011 as a three-year starter, All-Ohio selection and Gazette MVP. She also is a member of The Gazette All-Decade Team (2011-20). She made 139 career 3-pointers and shot 47% from the 3-point line in 2011. She continued her basketball career at Ashland, where she holds school records for threes in a game, tournament game and season, and for season 3-point percentage. She was a three-year starter and scored 20 points when Ashland won the 2013 NCAA D-II national championship. Jeff Cerveny Cerveny was the 1999 Gazette MVP in track and field as a senior. That capped a career in which he was a two-time SL champion in the high jump, SL champion in the long jump, two-time Medina County champion in both events, a two-time state qualifier in the high jump and a state qualifier in the long jump. He was All-Ohio in 1999 and set the county and Boardman Regional records in the high jump. He holds Wadsworth records in the high jump (6 feet, 10.25 inches) and long jump (22-8) and earned a track scholarship to Ohio State, where he was a three-year letterwinner. Brad Moser Moser was the 1999 Gazette Male Athlete of the Year after standout careers in soccer and basketball. In soccer, he was two-time first-team All-SL, two-time All-Gazette and All-Ohio. In basketball, he was first-team All-Gazette, All-SL and All-Ohio. In 1999, he led the basketball team in scoring (17.0), rebounding (6.1), assists (4.0), steals (2.8) and 3-point percentage (.415). He earned a basketball scholarship to Bethel (Ind.) and finished his career at Mount Vernon Nazarene. Jack Snowball Snowball earned three letters in basketball and another in track, but the football field was where he really excelled. As a senior, he set county season records for rushing yards (2,595 yards) and points (194). He was named first-team All-Ohio, Gazette MVP, Plain Dealer Player of the Year, All-Inland District D-I Offensive Player of the Year and Ohio D-I co-Offensive Player of the Year. He earned a scholarship to D-I Miami of Ohio, where he continued his football career. Kagan Squire Squire was a four-time state wrestling placer, taking third in 2009 and 2012 and second in 2010 and 2011. His 50 season wins were the Wadsworth record at the time of his graduation, while his 176-20 career record was second to only Nick Tavanello in the county. Squire is a member of The Gazette All-Decade Team (2011-20) and started for the 2010 D-I state championship team. He was also a FloNationals and Cadet freestyle National Champion and ranked the 26th-best recruit in the nation as a senior before continuing his career at Ohio University. Nick Tavanello Tavanello was the Wadsworth co-Outstanding Senior Male Athlete in 2012 with Snowball after historic football and wrestling careers. He was a second-team All-Ohio lineman in football. In wrestling, he finished third in the state as a freshman in 2009 before winning in each of his next three years, highlighted by being a member of the 2010 D-I state championship team. His 179 career wins were a county record until last winter, and he set the school career record for pins (108). He was a two-time Gazette MVP, named The Gazette Wrestler of the Decade (2011-20) and is a member of the Medina County Sports Hall of Fame. He wrestled at Ohio State, where he finished with a 56-37 career record, was a two-time national qualifier and competed for the 2015 NCAA D-I national championship team. Greg Dennison Dennison coached Wadsworth football for 21 seasons, becoming the winningest coach in school history (148-76). The Grizzlies won three SL championships (1996, 2007, 2009), made nine playoff appearances and earned three regional runner-up trophies (1999, 2003, 2011). Wadsworth finished at least .500 in 18 of Dennison's 21 seasons, including a streak of 14 from 1996-2009. Dennison was named The Gazette Coach of the Decade (2011-20), and his record as the county's winningest coach (205-96) continues to grow at Buckeye.
