Man dies, woman suffers serious injuries in crash A 77-year-old man died in a Thursday afternoon crash and the 75-year-old driver sustained serious injuries, according to the Chatham Township Fire Department. At 2 p.m. Thursday, the Chatham Township Fire Department was dispatched to the 7900 block of state Route 162 for a single-vehicle crash, according to a fire department news release. A 77-year-old man was transported to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Lodi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver was extricated from the vehicle and flown via Metro LifeFlight to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland with life-threatening injuries, the release stated. Chatham Township received mutual aid from Lafayette Township Fire District and the crash is under investigation by the Medina County Sheriff's Office. Medina County to receive loans from Ohio Water Development Authority The Ohio Water Development Authority awarded $22.5 million through low-interest loans to Ohio communities to improve wastewater and drinking water infrastructure and make water quality improvements. Medina County is receiving about $6 million at 3.53 percent for 20 years for the construction of a water storage tower to replace an existing tower that has exceeded its useful life. John Smart House Museum holds August open house The Medina County Historical Society will hold an open house at the John Smart House Museum at 206 N. Elmwood Ave. in Medina from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. The last tour starts at 3:30 p.m. It will be a self-guided tour of the museum. There will be people throughout the museum to answer questions and provide facts. Admission donation prices are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $3 for students 7 to 18. Children younger than have free admission with a hand-holding adult. Salvation Army of Medina announces softball tournament The Salvation Army of Medina announced that its 2024 Hits for Hunger softball tournament is set to take place Aug. 17 at Blakslee Park, 3625 Fenn Road. The tournament will begin at 9 a.m. Proceeds from the tournament will go directly to fund the Salvation Army food pantry and other food programs. The tournament will feature three four-team round robins with championship games. The cost is $300 per team. The registration deadline is Sunday or until all 12 team slots are filled. Awards will be given to first- and second-place teams, and all participants will receive a baseball hat. A children's activity area, concessions and a 50/50 raffle will be available. Road closures throughout Medina County Grafton Road in Liverpool Township will be closed between Columbia Road and Liverpool Drive, specifically between 5965 Grafton Road and 5986 Grafton Road, for guardrail replacement from Monday through Friday. Marks Road in Medina Township will be closed from Tuesday through Aug. 12 at the northern intersection of Fenn Road for a concrete slab replacement. The Westfield Township Board of Trustees authorized the closure of Buffham Road between Ryan and Lake roads for railroad crossing replacement from Monday through Wednesday.
