Highland's Elizabeth Coleman to play golf at Ball State

Incoming Highland junior Elizabeth Coleman did not need to search far and wide when it came to finding the right school to continue her golf career. The two-time All-Gazette selection found everything in one of the first places she looked, Mid-American Conference member Ball State. After speaking with coach Cameron Andry on the phone a few times, Coleman attended the Cardinals' summer camp. After touring the campus and golf facilities, she was ready to make her decision. "After experiencing all of that, I just really loved all the things I was getting to experience at Ball State," Coleman said. "I've had such a good time with all the Highland girls I've gotten to play with and all the people I've met. It seems like I'll get the same type of team experience with Ball State." Coleman, who said Ball State was at the top of her list from the beginning, spoke very highly of Andry and the connection they were able to build in a short time. "The first time that I talked to Coach Andry, he had a really nice personality," Coleman said. "I wasn't super nervous talking to him. He was almost easy to joke around with, which was nice because it's important to have fun while you're golfing." That connection continued to build throughout the team after Coleman, who finished 25th at the Division I state tournament and carried a 38.4 average last season, got the chance to talk to and play golf with some of the Cardinals golfers. "We had such a good time talking, that all these people seem so nice," Coleman said. "I knew that I'd get along with them because they like to work hard and love golf. I felt really good with all of the people." On top of everything the golf program had to offer, Coleman was attracted to the school's pre-medicine program. "I'm thinking about studying pre-med, and they have a really good program," Coleman said. "Which is obviously really important in picking a college, that they have what you want to study." Coleman has developed her interest in the medical field and the way the body works from a young age. "I've always been interested in how the human body works," Coleman said. "I used to have a book that I'd read every night about different parts of the body, and that just sparked an interest from then on." Contact John Urchek at jurchek@medina-gazette.com.
