Wadsworth seniors celebrate Christmas in July with a car show and crafters market

WADSWORTH — Santa Claus brought Christmas in July to the Soprema Senior Center on Friday. Soprema Senior Center Director Lori Wilkinson said 45 cars took part in the car show, and the vehicles represented every decade from the 1930s to the 2020s. Some cars had Christmas decorations to fit in with the theme. Car owners had the chance to win trophies in three categories, she said. Attendees voted for their favorite car to win the people's choice award. In the other two categories — best Christmas theme and best in show — Wadsworth High School Principal Vincent Suber, Johanna Perrino from WCTV and Main Street Wadsworth Executive Director Megan Harvey were judges, Wilkinson said. The event also featured the Soprema Senior Center's first craft show, she said. The North Pole crafters market allowed local seniors, like members of the senior center's watercolor class, to sell their handmade crafts. "We have members from that class selling their paintings. Some of them have been turned into cards and other things are framed," Wilkinson said. "It's a little art show for them, and attendees are welcome to buy the paintings." Christmas in July was also an opportunity for the Wadsworth Older Adults Foundation to sell its 12 Days of Christmas raffle tickets, she said. Tickets are entered into a raffle of gift cards to local businesses during the Christmas season. The raffle benefits the senior center. Wilkinson said the event was great for people of all ages, even though it took place at the senior center. "It's an event for the community to come out, see what we do and experience our really friendly vibe here," she said.
