Soprema Senior Center Café celebrates its one year anniversary

WADSWORTH — Wadsworth area seniors celebrated the one year anniversary of the Soprema Cafe's reopening with cake and raffles for prizes Friday. Last June, the Medina County Office for Older Adults took over as the vendor of the Soprema Café. Office for Older Adults Executive Director Laura Toth said the two organizations have a long-standing partnership with one another. "The Medina County Office for Older Adults has one of the oldest relationships with the Wadsworth senior center, now the Soprema Senior Center," she said. "I have a contract for congregate meals, the way we used to do meals, dated 1978. I believe it was one of the first contracts that the Office for Older Adults did, and it was with the city of Wadsworth." The Soprema Café offers a variety of breakfast, lunch and dessert options for not just seniors but the entire community. The café, 617 School Drive, is open from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays, except during holidays. "I also think it's really neat that we have those that are not just seniors that come to utilize our café," Wadsworth Mayor Robin Laubaugh said. "I think that's wonderful because that's what it's for. It's to bring vitality and energy to this center that we all know and love." The café is a vital part of the Soprema Center, and it makes Wadsworth unique, Laubaugh said. She thanked the Office for Older Adults for their work because they had to step out of their comfort zone to run an actual café. "What a wonderful result that it is," Laubaugh said. "I've experienced it myself, but I also hear from many of you, hey, this is really great food and you know what? This is great prices." On June 5, the Soprema Center Café started taking vouchers, Toth said. The program allows seniors to receive between one to 12 vouchers per month, which are used to get a meal at the café.
