D'Qwell Jackson hired as pro scout; Browns announce several moves to football operations staff

D'Qwell Jackson is one of the best players of the Browns' expansion era, a bright spot on a string of bad teams.He returned to the organization last season after a decade away and supported the player development department. He's taken the next step in his front office career, being hired as a full-time pro scout, the team announced Tuesday.Jackson, 40, was a second-round pick of the Browns in 2006 out of the University of Maryland. He started 96 of 97 games at linebacker in eight seasons in Cleveland, missing all of 2010 with a shoulder injury.Proposed change in offseason schedule draws mixed reactionsHe totaled 826 tackles, 27 for loss, 11.5 sacks, 25 quarterback hits, eight interceptions — one returned for a touchdown — 29 passes defensed, five forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries. The only winning season during his tenure was 2007, when the Browns went 10-6 and missed the playoffs.He was released before the 2014 season, signed with the Colts and spent his final three seasons with them, making his lone Pro Bowl in 2014.He was inducted in the Cleveland Browns Legends program in 2021.Joel Bitonio feeling good after rough 2023, taking one-year-at-a-time approach to his careerJackson was among several hires, promotions and changes the Browns announced to their football operations staff.As previously reported, former Colts general manager Chris Polian was hired as adviser to GM Andrew Berry. Polian is a graduate of John Carroll University, and his father, Bill, had a Hall of Fame career as a GM with the Bills and Colts.Chris Polian spent the last three seasons as director of pro personnel with the Commanders. The Colts went to the Super Bowl in his first season as GM in 2009.Charles "Wat" Adair was hired as coordinator of team logistics, Josh Lucas as Mid-Atlantic area scout, Elisha Guidry, Tyler Habursky and Sam Secrest as scouting assistants and Jack Slatery as a player personnel assistant.Habursky is a recent graduate of John Carroll. He played football before retiring due to injury and becoming a student defensive quality control coach.Lucas is a native of North Canton, a Harvard graduate and was most recently director of player personnel for the Bears.Slatery worked the last four years in the behavioral health industry.
