Main Street Medina presents 2024 Kids Day and Teen Fest

No more teachers, no more books … you get the idea. That means it's time for Main Street Medina's annual Kids Day and Teen Fest, which takes place Saturday on Medina's Square. "The main thing is that the events are free," Main Street Medina Executive Director George Sam said. "So anybody can come and enjoy the day. There are fun activities. "Now that schools are over, we want families to come and enjoy the first week of summer. Kids Day and Teen Fest are a way to kind of celebrate the square in Medina and bring families out for a day of fun." Taking place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Kids Day boasts thrilling games, interactive activities and creative projects targeting toddlers to 11-year-olds. In addition to being able to visit with favorite action figures from Sweets & Geeks, there will be a rock wall, a local magician, face-painting, a petting zoo, balloon creations and the Medina County District Library's bookmobile, as well as public safety vehicles. There's also the safety cone scavenger hunt, Half Moon Yoga demo for kids and parents, All Fired Up painting, a demonstration from the Chippewa Lake Water Ski Team and performances by Medina Centre for Dance Art and Sarah's Violin Studio students. Chick-fil-A will be giving out free sandwiches from noon to 1:30 p.m. Attendees can stop by the rec center tent to pick up a coupon to redeem for sandwiches at the Chick-fil-A tent. As for Teen Fest, targeting 12- to 17-year-olds, Main Street Medina added the angsty affair last year. "I think teens felt a little bored and maybe not well represented at Kids Fest," Sam said. "So what we did was bring in some fun games that teens would be more interested in like cornhole, the OMG gaming truck and more teen-oriented activities." There will be a DJ, flight simulator, NEO Extreme Games' remote control car races, a rock wall, cornhole tournament, 9-Square and a Goosechase app scavenger hunt around the square. Register in advance for the flight simulator, cornhole tournament and Goosechase Scavenger Hunt or register on-site at the Medina Recreation Center tent. Space is limited. "The teens really enjoyed it last year," he said. "I was kind of surprised because you never know, but they came out." While weather-dependent, Kids Day could see 1,000 attendees while Teen Fest had 900 participants last year. "There's something for everybody," he said. "And the farmers market continues to happen that day. So if you bring your kids and they all hang out doing the fun activities, you can still shop at the farmers market.
