Elijah Moore says 'nothing to be mad about,' likes Jerry Jeudy addition, not afraid to compete

BEREA — If Elijah Moore's unhappy, he's not letting on.Before his news conference after practice, he shook hands with reporters. He then conducted a one-on-one interview with his arm around the reporter.The Browns traded for Jerry Jeudy in March, then gave him a three-year, $52.5 million extension. The move bumps Moore from the No. 2 receiver to No. 3 as he enters the final year of his rookie contract.So when Moore didn't attend organized team activities last week — they're voluntary — some speculated the absence was in protest. He then posted a message Sunday on X with a couple of profanities and the theme of "outwork everyone!"What Deshaun Watson did and how he looked throwing during OTAs session"Let's just clear that up," Moore said Thursday as the second week of OTAs concluded. "There's nothing to be mad about. It's a lot of stuff going on in the world. I've been invited by competition my whole life, so it's not like I'm mad because Jeudy or I'm mad because Coop or anybody else that comes in, I ain't never shy from nothing. I'm from Florida, so that's not nothing that I'm ever afraid of."The South Florida bond travels north. Moore is from Fort Lauderdale, Pro Bowler Amari Cooper from Miami and Jeudy from Deerfield Beach."I'm excited about what we got. I grew up with these guys," Moore said. "You have the opportunity to have two people from exactly where you're from and you get to play alongside of them. A lot of the times, for receivers, we're always out there by ourselves. So that is a blessing and I'm going to work my a– off just like I always do."Injury no joke but running back/return specialist Nyheim Hines expects to have last laughCooper is set to make $23.8 million this year, the last on his contract. Moore is due $3.1 million and was asked about his uncertain future."If I think about it, I'm going to drive myself crazy," he said. "I just take it one day at a time. I focus on the task ahead."If I handle what I'm supposed to handle, I'm going to be blessed. So that's just how I look at it. I don't really focus on that because it's not my time yet."Moore, 24, is entering his second season with the Browns after they acquired him from the Jets in a trade in March 2023. He set career highs with 59 catches and 640 yards, adding two touchdowns, but fell short of the lofty expectations that followed the trade and his performance in the offseason and training camp.He had to deal with a revolving door at quarterback, as Deshaun Watson was limited to five full games by shoulder injuries. Moore tries not to get consumed with statistics when many times they're out of his control."Nobody here has the answers to life. Nobody has the answers to why certain situations go the way they do," Moore said. "So I think that all we can do is put the next foot forward. Focus on one day at a time and win all my moments."Ken Dorsey was hired as coordinator in the offseason with the belief he can add electricity and diversity to the passing game. With more spread formations and choice routes, Moore could be positioned for success."Elijah has been coming out doing a great job, whether it's those types of concepts or just winning one-on-one matchups on a slant or a go ball or whatever," Dorsey said.With the addition of Jeudy, the development of second-year wideout Cedric Tillman and Dorsey's influence, Moore sees a lot of potential in the offense."I just feel like it's going to be a lot more explosive," he said. "It's super exciting to line up alongside with these guys, and I just think that having Dorsey, someone who's an extravagant guy like him, you look at him and you could just tell he loves football."Cooper didn't attend the first two weeks of OTAs and Jeudy wasn't there Thursday, so the full picture hasn't been on display. Moore still envisions greatness and would rank the receiving corps No. 1 in the AFC."If you're not thinking that, you shouldn't be playing ball," he said. "No. 1.
