Brunswick's Sunday at the Farm to return for the season

BRUNSWICK — Medina County residents can learn about Brunswick's history, support local vendors and more as part of a series of themed events this summer and fall. The Brunswick Area Historical Society will hold Sunday at the Farm at Heritage Farm each Sunday from June 9 through Oct. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The only exception is July 7, because the group will take part in Brunswick's Independence Day parade. Sunday at the Farm Marketing Manager Katie Georgekopoulos said the event rebranded from the Brunswick Farmers Market to better encompass everything happening each Sunday. Each week, guests will receive a raffle ticket upon entry for a chance to win a gift certificate or products from local businesses, she said. At the end of the season, there will be raffles for items like a homemade quilt and a birdhouse in the shape of the Parschen gazebo, which is now at the farm. On any given Sunday, guests can shop from around 20 vendors, Georgekopoulos said. There are 63 registered vendors who sell a variety of products like pottery, produce, jewelry, candles and more. In the big red barn on opening day, cookies and cupcakes will be available to try for free, which were donated by local bakers, she said. Patrons can also listen to live music inside the barn. Most of the historical buildings at Heritage Farm will be open, and tours of the house will be available, Georgekopoulos said. The historical society is working on getting the old school museum up and running this year by putting in displays. "Getting people to know the history of the city that they live in is one of our missions," she said. Some weeks will have a theme, Georgekopoulos said. Model A vehicles will be at the farm on Father's Day, and Santa will be at the farm a month later for a Christmas in July celebration. There will also be a canine costume contest and fall festival later in the season. "There's people that have lived in Brunswick for years, and they never even knew Heritage Farm existed," she said. "Our big thing last year was the marketing of the farm, and I think we have come a long way. More people seem to be aware of it." Sunday at the Farm is the historical society's largest fundraiser, Georgekopoulos said. Last year, about $5,500 was raised, and the goal for this season is $7,000. "They're not only helping to support their local historical society, they're supporting the community as a whole because many of our vendors are local residents of Brunswick," she said.
