Medina Schools' non-teaching staff member resigns after being suspected to be under the influence of alcohol at work

MEDINA — A Medina Schools non-teaching staff member resigned from his position after he was suspected to be under the influence of alcohol at work on Friday. Medina Superintendent Aaron Sable sent an email on Monday afternoon stating that early Friday morning, district administrators suspected that a Northrop Elementary School non-teaching staff member was under the influence of alcohol at work. "During this time, the non-teaching staff member was not responsible for the care, custody or supervision of any students," Sable said. The suspicion was quickly addressed by Medina Schools' administrative team and the staff member was placed on administrative leave, pending further investigation. As of Monday, the staff member resigned from his position with Medina Schools, effective today. Sable emphasized that the staff member had not been in contact with any students on Friday. "The safety and security of our students and staff are paramount. We continue to enforce strict policies and procedures to ensure a safe learning environment for all students and staff," Sable said. "Thank you for your support as we continue to investigate the situation and maintain a safe and positive environment for our learners and educators."
