Cavs Scream Team celebrates Brunswick's Special Olympians

BRUNSWICK — The Cleveland Cavaliers Scream Team helped Brunswick Middle School students celebrate the district's Special Olympians in a pep rally full of dancing, cheering and basketball. Student athletes from across Medina County will compete in a Special Olympics event on Tuesday at Cloverleaf High School. Brunswick's athletes were recognized during Friday's pep rally since their peers cheered them on while they entered the gym. Brunswick Middle School Eighth Grade Assistant Principal Christina Stanovcak said the last time a pep rally was held for the Special Olympics athletes was in 2019, and the district wanted to bring the tradition back. "One of our competencies of the portrait of a graduate is empathy," she said. "We celebrate all kids. This is their big event of the year, and this is their celebration."
