Brunswick Education Association scholarship The Brunswick Education Association will award one $1,000 scholarship to a Brunswick High School graduate majoring in education. The scholarship will be awarded to a student who completed at least one year of college work by June of the present year. Pop concert at Wadsworth Public Library ORMACO and the Wadsworth Public Library continue their Live at the Library concert series with singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jerry Popiel at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Wadsworth Public Library. Popiel plays guitar, mandolin, bass, harmonica, percussion and keys. He performs songs from musicians like James Taylor, Cat Stevens, Jim Croce, Simon & Garfunkel, Gordon Lightfoot, Dan Fogelberg and more in a solo acoustic guitar setting. Medina County Board of Developmental Disabilities receives highest accreditation level The Medina County Board of Developmental Disabilities announced it was given the highest accreditation by the Commission of Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities International for a period of three years. MCBDD received accreditation for numerous services like community employment supports, community employment job development and employment planning services. "Receiving a three-year accreditation from CARF shows the commitment of our agency to listening and working with families and individuals with developmental disabilities, so they have the support they need to achieve success," MCBDD Superintendent Stacey Maleckar said. "It is only through the combined efforts of the individuals we serve, their families, our staff, board members and administration along with the ongoing support from our community that we were able to reach this important level of recognition." Ohio certifies Medina Township Police Department The Office of Criminal Justice Services announced the certification of 39 Ohio law enforcement agencies for state standards established by the Ohio Collaborative Community-Police Advisory Board. The Medina Township Police Department was one of the certified agencies. Agencies completing the certification process have adopted and implemented the initial two standards regarding use of force and hiring and recruitment. Road closure in Sharon Township Ridgewood Road in Sharon Township will be closed on Monday and Tuesday while crews are present for roadside construction between Medina Line Road and Forest Glen Trail. West Smith Road reconstruction project update The city of Medina provided an update for the West Smith Road reconstruction project. On Monday, the intersection of West Smith Road and South Huntington Street will remain closed while the contractor finishes the utility installation. Local access to businesses along West Smith Road will be maintained from the east on South Elmwood Avenue and the west from Prospect Street. On Tuesday, the contractor will begin pavement removal and replacement of the existing roadway on West Smith Road from the entry drive to Cin Dee's Place going west to the bridge located near Lager Heads. Paving is anticipated to take approximately six to eight weeks to complete. During this time, West Smith Road between South Elmwood Avenue and Prospect Street will be closed to through traffic but will be open for local access with limitations.
