Hinckley goes out to bid for 2024 paving projects

HINCKLEY TWP. — The Hinckley Township Board of Trustees on Tuesday passed a resolution that allows the Medina County Engineer's Office to advertise for bids for the township's 2024 paving projects. Laurel Road from West 130th Street to Stony Hill Road is one of this year's paving projects. The other is a joint agreement between the township and Broadview Heights to do roadwork on the approximately 1-mile-long stretch of Boston Road that lies on the border between the two municipalities. "We go out with the county engineer annually and look and evaluate pavement," Hinckley Chairman Jack Swedyk said. "Those (roads) are what we deemed to be the sections that are most in need of attention." The engineer's estimated cost for the Laurel Road project is about $270,000 while Boston Road's estimated cost is $283,000, he said. "The roadwork for both roads will be a mill and fill using hot mix with a top of 2 (inches) of asphalt," Swedyk said. Broadview Heights and Hinckley will each pay for half of the construction project on Boston Road, Swedyk said. It is similar to the agreement the township went into with North Royalton last year to do work on a different part of Boston Road since the road is also on the border between the two. The bid opening will take place at 1 p.m. March 7 at the Medina County Engineer's Office. He said the county will provide a bid tabulation to the township, and the trustees will pick who is the successful bidder. "It's the same process we go through every year, so the contractors are familiar with the process," Swedyk said. "Most of the public knows that we continue to do road improvements as necessary.
