John J. Murray

John J. Murray of Medina, passed away Saturday, February 17, 2024. John was born June 7, 1935, to the late John and Frances (Cooleen) Murray. John was a hardworking and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He learned to never take a second of life for granted very early in his life after losing both his mother and father by the age of 8. John and his brother Jimmy were taken into the arms of the St. Joseph's Home and School for boys through 5th grade, St. Francis De Sales School from 6 through 8th grade and at the age of 17, John enlisted in the United States Coast Guard where he proudly served from 1952 until 1956. During his time in the Coast Guard, he was stationed in Cheboygan Michigan on the CGC Mackinaw which is where he happened upon the love of his life, Theora in 1954. John had a passion of bettering himself and those around him. After meeting Theora and the birth of his first daughter, he enrolled and graduated from The University of Maryland. He was a proud Terrapin. John navigated through life with a passion for work, family and Irish pride. After giving several dedicated years to Hausted as President of the company he retired and worked part time providing tax services for senior citizens with AARP. John is survived by his daughters, Robin Murray, and Shawne Whary; grandchildren, Ryan (Heather) Murray, Melodee (Ned Andrews) Baines, Tiffany Baines, Cavin Moore, Lauren (Justin) Workman, and Henley Moore; great-grandchildren, Hunter Baines, Mason Baines, Edith Baines-Andrews, and Elizabeth Joyce Cottrell; and son-in-law Dickie Moore. John is preceded in death by his loving wife, Theora; daughters, Crystal Moore and Colleen Murray-Jones; and brother, Jimmy Murray.
