Four injured in Brunswick house fire

BRUNSWICK — A family of four was injured in a house fire early Tuesday morning. Brunswick Fire Chief Greg Glauner said the fire occurred on Nancy Circle at roughly 3 a.m. When crews arrived, the front porch and the foyer were engulfed in flames, he said, and the home was filled with heavy, black smoke. "Clearly it was a super-heated atmosphere," Glauner said. "The smoke and the heat damage was throughout the home." The family, who has not been identified, consists of a married man and woman, and a 17-year-old and a 5-year-old, he said. Each of them had to pass through the fire in order to escape their house, but they all got out before crews arrived. All four people have burns in varying degrees and were all taken to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, Glauner said. The father was in the most severe condition and was flown to the hospital. There were no working smoke detectors in the home, he said. Glauner stressed the importance of having working smoke detectors inside the home, so people can improve their chances of escaping a house fire uninjured. "Most generally, when we show up in the middle of the night, those individuals that are outside standing on the side of the driveway, incurring no injuries whatsoever, had an early detection from smoke detectors in their home," he said. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Glauner said.
