New businesses are coming to Brunswick starting in 2024

BRUNSWICK — New restaurants and other businesses are anticipated to open in the city in 2024 and beyond. Brunswick Economic Development Director Grant Aungst gave city officials an update on business in the city during an economic development committee meeting Monday. Market 42 is one of the major projects coming to the city, he said. It consists of a nearly 26,000-square-foot farmers market, a residential development and nature paths that connect the commercial area to the homes. Construction is estimated to begin in March. Other new businesses are in various stages of development. Aungst said Mission BBQ, First Watch, Culver's, Cool Beans Café and more are working toward opening in the city. "I'm expecting some things to share, and I'm expecting to have some good announcements as they come to fruition and they lock up real estate," he said. Businesses are interested in coming to Brunswick because there is a lot of wealth now compared to the past, Aungst said. The city is expected to continue seeing commercial development over the next few years. "Up until a few years ago, there was not the disposable income that people thought," he said. "People would call me and say, 'I go here for a restaurant and here for a restaurant.' That's great, but here the concentration has not been well. Now we're starting to get some of that, and people are seeing a little bit more disposable income." Finding employees has been a challenge for businesses, Aungst said. To help address the issue, local students are learning about workforce development, interviewing techniques and more. "We continue to work with all our businesses on job placement and locating talent," he said. "Finding coachable people and folks that are willing to be trained is extremely difficult these days."
