High school football: Medina QB Danny Stoddard repeats as All-Ohio Division I Offensive Player of the Year

Danny Stoddard officially went down as one of the most decorated football players in Medina County history Thursday when he shared the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association Division I Offensive Player of the Year award for the second straight season. The quarterback, Cleveland Heights running back Marquise Davis and Mr. Football Jordan Marshall of Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller were the winners when the All-Ohio teams were released. Stoddard and Marshall were co-honorees in 2022. Stoddard completed 319-of-483 passes for 4,480 yards and 50 touchdowns as the Bees went 10-4 and reached the regional finals before falling to eventual state champion St. Edward. The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder also rushed 160 times for 870 yards and 13 scores as defenses dared the Bees to run the ball much more than last season. Joining Stoddard on the first team — also for the second straight season — was Medina wide receiver Austin Knowles. The 6-1, 185-pound senior broke every county season receiving record with 104 receptions for 1,786 yards and 23 touchdowns, with his yardage total ranking in the top 20 in state history and his TD total in the top 10. Medina linebacker Cooper Josefczyk (6-1, 225, jr.) and safety Tallen Hulvey (6-1, 190) were second-team selections. Josefczyk led the area with 139 tackles, while Hulvey smashed the school record with 12 interceptions, tied for second in county history. Also on the second team were Wadsworth senior quarterback Will Stack (5-10, 170, sr.) and Brunswick two-way tackle Jaxon Dunn (6-5, 300, sr.). Stack became just the second player in school history to rush and pass for 1,000 yards apiece — he was honorable mention All-Ohio at wide receiver last season — while Dunn is a Kent State recruit who starred both ways. Third-team selections went to Medina wide receiver Jack Wojciak (6-2, 210, sr.) and right tackle Pete Jarvis (6-2, 280, sr.). Wojciak had 83 catches for 1,083 yards and 12 TDs while adding 308 yards and five scores on ground, while Jarvis was the top blocker for an offense that averaged 42.0 points and 467.8 yards (362.9 passing). Honorable mention went to Wadsworth's Kyle Figuray (RB, 6-1, 205, sr.), Eli Kaufman (RT, 6-3, 285, jr.), Jack Dinwiddie (K, 5-7, 140, jr.), Luke Ryder (DL, 5-10, 220, sr.), Jacob Earnest (LB, 6-2, 205, so.) and Gavin Madigan (S, 5-11, 200, so.).
