Two candidates running for York Township trustee

Chris Kosman, 40 Education: He has an associate degree in environmental resource management from the Ohio State University's Agricultural Technical Institute. Family: Wife, Tiffany, and children Anna and Ryan. Job history: He has worked for the Montville Township Service Department and has been the Montville Township service director since 2015. YORK TWP. — Chris Kosman and James Schmidlin are the two candidates running for York Township trustee in November's election. Schmidlin did not respond to multiple requests by The Gazette to fill out a candidate questionnaire. What makes you the best candidate for the position? Kosman: My experience in working for Montville Township, both in the service department and as the service director, has given me a unique perspective. I am fully aware of what is involved in running a township, how township funding and laws work and how important it is to build a strong relationship with residents. Utilizing what I have learned over the years in my employment role and through my time on the York Township Board of Zoning Appeals, I feel that I have a perspective that is different from other candidates. What is the biggest challenge facing the township, and how would you address it? Kosman: The biggest challenge facing the township right now is growth. York is growing, and yet it is still very much a rural township. As the population grows, the needs for services change. The demand for snowplowing, road maintenance and safety services are increasing. To be fiscally responsible and grow the services in a sustainable and timely manner is imperative. In order to address these concerns, we need to look carefully at the resources we have, streamline where we can and weigh out what will be sustainable, financially responsible and necessary next steps.
