Buckeye wrestler Eddie Neitenbach to continue on mats at University of Wyoming

The Buckeye wrestling team added a second Division I college athlete this season when senior Eddie Neitenbach announced his commitment to the University of Wyoming. Neitenbach joins fellow senior Colyn Limbert, who committed to Pittsburgh in August. A three-time state qualifier and two-time state placer, Neitenbach announced his decision on Facebook. "I'm excited to announce that I'll be furthering my academic and athletic career at the University of Wyoming," Neitenbach wrote. "Big thanks to all the friends, coaches and family that have helped me along the way. I'd also like to thank the coaches who showed interest in me during my recruiting process. "Can't wait to live Cowboy tough!!!!" Neitenbach was an integral piece of the Bucks winning the Division II Ohio High School Wrestling Coaches Association State Duals championship last season, earning pins against West Holmes and Louisville before a 24-9 technical fall over St. Paris Graham's Kaden Marshall after moving up to 190 pounds for the match. He also went undefeated at the district tournament. Wyoming sent Jacob Wright and Jore Volk to the NCAA championships last winter. Wright was the Cowboys' top placer out of six on the podium at the Big 12 championships, taking third. Neitenbach enters his senior season at Buckeye with a 128-13 record. In his freshman season, Neitenbach went 43-7 and reached the 2021 D-II state tournament held at Marengo Highland High School, where he placed fifth. Neitenbach was a favorite to win a state championship as a sophomore before he failed the pre-tournament skin check and was removed from the field. He was once again a favorite to be a state finalist last winter but suffered an ankle injury in the week leading up to the tournament. The three-time All-Gazette selection still battled his way to a third-place finish in his first time competing in a state tournament held at Value City Arena. Behind Neitenbach and state champions in Limbert and Kaden King, Buckeye placed third as a team at the state tournament behind Graham and Columbus St. Francis DeSales.
