Results of the 62nd annual Valley City frog jump festival At the 62nd annual Valley City frog jump festival, a total of 724 frogs jumped in 37 flights. The 35 flight winners returned for the grand jump off. Tanner Zieja, of Medina, was named the grand champion when his frog Peanut had a final round jump of 11 feet, 10 inches. Rya Fitzgerald, of Valley City, won reserve champion with her frog Slayer with a jump of 11 feet, 7 inches. Jefferson Vondruska, of River Corners, had the longest jump of the day with a jump of 13 feet, 6 inches with his frog Buddy. The shortest jump was done by Markus Birth and his frog Wartz. Wartz completed a new record by hopping away from the starting point and then returning to the same spot for a distance of zero inches. Participants should meet in the Medina County Career Center Parking Lot at 1101 W. Liberty St. in Medina at 6:15 p.m. The ride is for ages 12 and up, and children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent. All riders must wear helmets and bring water bottles. Bicycles should have blinking white front lights and red back lights. Waivers will be provided and must be signed before the start of the ride. No registration is required for the free event. Local student graduates from Emporia State University Colin Sapara, of Medina, graduated from Emporia State University in May. He graduated with a master of science degree in health, physical education and recreation. Road closure The Westfield Township trustees have authorized the closure of Buffham Road on Friday at the intersection of Friendsville Road and continuing west approximately 200 feet for roadside construction.
