Guardians notes: Josh Naylor misses Tuesday's game, but wrist injury not considered serious

CLEVELAND — Fears were eased for Josh Naylor and the Guardians. Naylor left the game Monday night with a nagging wrist injury and was not in the lineup Tuesday, but manager Terry Francona doesn't envision one of his top run producers needing a trip to the injured list. "He got imaged today and it showed some mild swelling, which I think we knew. It didn't show anything else, which is good," Francona said. "Anytime you start looking at guys who get a little beat up, you get nervous. "He's listed as day-to-day, which we all are, but I think I think they can ramp up some things in the training room to hopefully make him feel a little bit better." Francona told reporters Monday after a 4-2 loss to the Braves that Naylor has been dealing with tendinitis in his right wrist. Losing Naylor for any significant amount of time would be a blow to the Guardians. He leads the team with a .295 batting average and 60 RBIs over 75 games. Naylor, whose RBI total leads American League first baseman, has been especially productive over the last two months. He entered Tuesday tied for third in the majors with 41 RBIs since May 12, second in batting average (.368) and ninth in OPS (.986). Thanks for coming Long reliever Xzavion Curry has been a huge asset for Francona out of the bullpen, entering Tuesday with a 3-0 record and 3.18 ERA over 21 appearances (45 1/3 innings). The right-hander leads Cleveland's bullpen in innings (tied for 2nd in the AL through Monday) and is limiting the opposition to a .159 average (7-for-44) with runners in scoring position. "He's a real mature, athletic young pitcher and an easy kid to root for," Francona said of the 24-year-old Curry. "He throws strikes. He's a quick study. I think we all like the idea he doesn't beat himself. He'll give up on occasional home run because he throws so many strikes, but he's learning on the job and that's all you can really ask." Over its first 40 home dates through Monday, Cleveland drew 578,148 fans for an average of 20,802, which ranked 22nd in the big leagues. Roundin' third Shortstop Amed Rosario entered Tuesday slashing .337/.381/.413 with seven extra-base hits, 15 RBIs, 14 runs and a .794 OPS over his last 25 games since June 6. His 35 hits over the span ranked third in the AL. Tuesday starter Shane Bieber reached 900 strikeouts over the first 128 games of his career, breaking two-time Cy Young winner Corey Kluber's franchise record of 135 games. Bieber is the fifth-fastest to reach the milestone in major league history behind Yu Darvish (113), Tim Lincecum (123), Kerry Wood (123), and Dwight Gooden (127).
