Medina County Board of Elections gives update on August election

MEDINA — The Medina County Board of Elections passed a motion to reduce the number of poll workers staffed for the August election during a board meeting Tuesday because it is expected to be a small election. The maximum number of poll workers would be 484, which amounts to four workers per precinct, Medina County Board of Elections Director Nicole Mickley said. The number can be cut down by having two poll workers per precinct in voting locations that house more than one precinct. "If you have six precincts in a location, then the least you can have is 12 (poll workers)," she said. "In a singular, you have to have at least four workers." There are 259 people who have already confirmed that they can be poll workers for August, Mickley said. The precincts that vote at the Medina County Fairgrounds will be temporarily relocated to A.I. Root Middle School for the August election because it will be taking place at the same time as the Medina County Fair, she said. There are also two polling locations that will be permanently relocated starting in August, Mickley said. The four precincts from the Now Church will be reporting to The Chapel Church in Wadsworth. Similarly, two of the precincts from Towslee Elementary School in Brunswick will be moved to Huntington Elementary School, while one other precinct will report to Kidder Elementary School. Approximately 160 absentee applications have been sent in for the August election so far, which seems to be a slow start, she said. "It'll be interesting to see if it picks up here in the next couple weeks," Mickley said. The board of elections also certified the audit results from the May election during Tuesday's meeting. She said the results were 100 percent accurate, and the election went smoothly. "By and large, (staff) responses were positive," Mickley said.
