Sue (Hamner) Dickson Campbell

Sue (Hamner) Dickson Campbell, 88, of Medina, died Tuesday, May 23, 2023. She was born October 10, 1934, in Lakewood, to the late Julius and Lorena (nee Bennett) Hammer. She moved here 20 years ago from New Port Richey, Florida. She was a monitor technician in the critical care units for many years at Mease Hospital in Dunedin, Florida. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Stars, West Park Chapter #427, in Cleveland, since 1954. She enjoyed knitting and punch needle crafts, music, making all occasion cards on her computer, and watching documentaries and old movies on Netflix. She belonged to Medina Community Recreation Center where she exercised to stay healthy. Sue was happiest when she was spending time with her family. She always hoped to live long enough to see what vocations her grandchildren had chosen for their lifelong careers. Sue will be missed by her two sons, Stephen (Heidi) and Kevin (Connie) Dickson; five grandchildren, Christina, Douglas, Elizabeth, Rebecca and Erin; one great-grandchild, Noah. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 1998; also, a very dear friend, Jimmy Russo. Sue was an incredible mother, grandmother and wife who cared for and encouraged everyone in her family. She loved chocolate, celebrating Christmas and watching The Waltons. She enjoyed reminiscing, telling stories and hosting the parties with Robert at their house in Florida. She loved dogs and will be reunited with her beloved Duke who was no doubt waiting with Robert to greet her. She did live to see her grandchildren grow up, graduate high school, graduate college or marry and give her a great-grandson. She got to share her life with them and left them with many treasured memories. She supported her grandchildren's dreams and helped them through times of difficulty and with some of their adventures. She was born in the 1930's, graduated in the 1950's, but was a woman of the 1970's who believed that there was nothing a woman could not do and she proved it. She also instilled this in her granddaughters. She will be missed incredibly by those that loved her, there is a hole in our hearts that will be difficult to fill. However, we can be reassured that she lived life her way, overcame every obstacle thrown at her and frankly outlived her earthly body. She will be remembered. She made a difference and we are all richer for having her in our lives. We are so proud of her. Family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 in Waite & Son Funeral Home, 765 N. Court St., Medina. An Eastern Star and Memorial Service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery for family members only.
