College notes: Medina alum Kylie Hosey gets league honors as CWRU pitcher

Case Western Reserve sophomore Kylie Hosey earned University Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week after throwing nine shutout innings across three appearances in a four-game sweep of Brandeis, earning one win and one save in that span. The Medina alum followed the honor with two appearances in wins against Carnegie Mellon, including 4 1/3 innings without allowing an earned run in the series finale. Hosey is 9-2 with three saves, a 1.49 ERA and 65 strikeouts in 70 2/3 innings spread over 17 appearances and 11 starts. Softball Senior Becky Hurosky (Brunswick) earned Horizon League Player of the Week after hitting 7-for-20 (.350) with two home runs, eight RBIs and three runs to help Cleveland State go 4-2. Hurosky is hitting .294 with 22 RBIs and five runs in 38 games. Senior Jessica Voitko (Wadsworth) took home Ohio Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week after back-to-back shutouts to lead Heidelberg past Capital and Wilmington. She has eight wins and a 2.11 ERA. Cuyahoga Community College freshman Nikki Goode (Cloverleaf) is 10-for-25 (.400) with three doubles, one triple, seven RBIs and three runs in her last eight games. Mercyhurst senior Marisa Cartellone (Medina resident/Walsh Jesuit) is hitting .290 with 12 doubles, one triple, one home run, nine runs and 20 RBIs. Junior Maddi Long (Wadsworth) hit a two-run home run and had three RBIs in Tennessee-Martin's 7-2 win over Morehead State. Long is hitting .247 with three home runs, 16 runs and 15 RBIs. College of Wooster junior Kaydee Clark (Buckeye) has hit safely in six of the last seven games to raise her batting average to .333 with 15 runs and 14 RBIs. Baseball San Diego City College sophomore Conner Stewart (Wadsworth), who is hitting .322 with seven doubles and 23 RBIs, has committed to play for Cal State Northridge next spring. Wittenberg senior Matt Moore (Wadsworth) entered Wednesday on a 13-game hitting streak and was batting .414 with 26 RBIs and 18 runs to go with five doubles and three home runs. Sophomore Jake Johnson (Medina) earned his first win of the season in Ohio State's 12-11 victory over Miami (Ohio) by closing the game with a scoreless 2/3 of an inning. Johnson has not allowed an earned run in eight of his last nine appearances, spanning eight innings. Eastern Michigan sophomore Josh Kross (Brunswick) had five home runs in his last six games entering Wednesday. He had a team-leading 10 dingers, 28 runs and 54 RBIs while hitting .383. Senior Josh Meyer (Buckeye) allowed one run on six hits and four walks in eight innings to lead Ashland to a 3-1 win over Walsh, lowering his ERA to 2.08. Redshirt junior Breydan Cavey (Medina) had a season-high three hits and two RBIs in Akron's 9-6 loss to Kent State to raise his average to .368 with four doubles. Hillsdale junior Zane Barnhart (Highland) extended his scoreless streak to 15 1/3 innings and is 4-1 with six saves and a 2.21 ERA. Malone sophomore Anthony Bartiromo (Wadsworth) takes a seven-game hit streak into tonight's doubleheader with Lake Erie and is hitting .395 with four doubles, one triple, one home run, six runs and five RBIs. Hiram freshman Mike Midea (Buckeye) has hit safely in eight of his last 10 games and is now at .400 with four doubles, 11 runs and 18 RBIs. Cedarville junior Wyatt Petek (Highland) has allowed three earned runs in his last 10 2/3 innings, spanning seven appearances. The 6-foot-2 right-hander has one save in 16 2/3 innings with 10 strikeouts and a 7.02 ERA that has dropped with each appearance this year. Redshirt senior Craig Palidar (Wadsworth) hit his first home run of the season, a two-run shot, in Florida International's 10-5 loss to Louisiana Tech. Ohio Dominican junior Michael McFadden (Brunswick) is 8-for-23 with 10 RBIs, six runs, two doubles and one home run in the last eight games. Junior Jamie Perbzak (Wadsworth resident/Walsh Jesuit) compiled a 10-game hitting streak for Otterbein, going 10-for-30 with eight RBIs and six runs in that span, before going 0-for-8 in a double header against Heidelberg. Senior Nick Lallathin (Wadsworth) turned in a quality outing, allowing two earned runs in seven innings in Walsh's 4-0 loss to Ashland. Women's golf California University of Pennsylvania freshman Ari Kaser (Wadsworth) won medalist honors by one stroke at the Peter C. Rossin Memorial at Southpointe Golf Club by shooting a 15-over-par 87. Kaser led the Vulcans with seven pars and one birdie. Ursuline junior Lucille Petkac (Hinckley Twp. resident/Padre Pio Academy) won the Great-Midwest Athletic Conference Elite 25 Award for having the conference's highest GPA in the sport. Men's golf Junior Cooper Hrabak (Highland) fired a 2-under 70 in the final round of the Shoals Intercollegiate to finish seventh with a three-round score of 1-over 217, helping Methodist win its second tournament of the season. Men's lacrosse Freshman Ryan Polack (Wadsworth) broke out with five goals and three assists in Earlham's 12-9 win over Spalding, giving him 12 goals and four assists on the season. Women's lacrosse Junior Kaitlyn Kittle (Wadsworth) scored a career-high two goals in Ashland's 21-5 win over Lake Erie. Sophomore Keeghan Burden (Brunswick) has scored in all 13 games she has played for Ohio Northern and had 18 goals and 24 assists through Tuesday. Freshman Leora Owings (Medina) has nine goals and seven assists for Slippery Rock. Women's track and field Kent State sophomore Andrea Filote (Highland) won the 100-meter hurdles at Ohio's Cherry Blossom Invitational in a personal-best 14.40. Meg Daly (Brunswick) finished second for the Golden Flashes in the shot put (45 feet, 2½) at the same invitational. Mount Union freshmen Hannah Neiger (Medina) and Madison Miles (Brunswick resident/Padua Franciscan) paired with Kenadee Wayt and Lauren Roncone to win the 4x100 at the Cherry Blossom Invitational in 47.31, the sixth-fastest Division III time. Ohio freshman Jenna Razavi (Medina) took second in the 3,000 steeplechase (11:27.98) at the Cherry Blossom Invitational.
