Brunswick and Brunswick Hills police blotter for April 20

Brunswick police Tuesday, April 11 2:34 p.m. — 3200 block of Center Road; a black leather wallet containing several credit cards was located at Taco Bell and turned in to the Brunswick Division of Police. Contact was made with the owner, but he did not retrieve it. 3:40 p.m. — Aspen Lake Drive; officers responded to a report of a disturbance between two people. Jonathan Lawhorn, 31, of Brunswick, and another man were involved in a road rage incident. The two then unknowingly drove to the same apartment complex and were involved in a verbal altercation. They separated voluntarily. Police said Lawhorn provoked the other man a second time, which was observed by a neighbor. Lawhorn was cited for disorderly conduct. Wednesday, April 12 1:19 a.m. — Bennington Boulevard; a city vehicle struck a parked vehicle, which caused minor damage to both vehicles. 11:16 a.m. — 900 block of Pearl Road; a man was lying on the grass outside of St. Ambrose. Contact was made with Michael Curry, 28, of Cleveland, who appeared to be homeless. He was found to have an active warrant for his arrest out of the Beachwood Police Department for failure to appear. Beachwood police took him into custody without incident. 1:39 p.m. — I-71; a vehicle struck a guardrail and then went to the left, crossing three lanes of traffic. The vehicle then went off the highway on the left side, entered the grass median and struck the median cable barrier. 3:44 p.m. — Rocklyn Drive; a report was made that Shawn Bazan, 39, of Brunswick, was under the influence of drugs, had become physical with individuals on scene and was attempting to access a firearm. He was in the front yard and was highly agitated and aggressive toward officers. He began advancing on officers in an aggressive manner, and a Taser was deployed on him. He was taken into custody, issued a misdemeanor citation into Brunswick Mayor's Court for disorderly conduct and later released. Thursday, April 13 1:51 a.m. — Cross Creek Drive; officers performed a welfare check on an intoxicated man who was asking to stay in an apartment. Contact was made with Ryan Gilhousen, 19, of Brunswick, who admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages. On scene, he submitted to a portable breath test, which indicated a blood alcohol content of 0.055 percent. He was arrested for underage alcohol consumption and transported to the Medina County Jail without incident. 8:38 a.m. — Industrial Parkway; police responded to the MetroHealth Brunswick Health Center in reference to a disturbance complaint. Patient Jeffrey Koepke, 61, of Brunswick, engaged staff in a dispute over a billing issue. During the exchange, he yelled profanities and pushed an employee. He was gone upon officer arrival but was later located at his residence. He was issued a minor misdemeanor citation into Brunswick Mayor's Court for disorderly conduct. No injuries were reported. 3:15 p.m. — Ridgeview Drive; the Brunswick Division of Fire was dispatched for a report of open burning. Upon their arrival, resident Amanda Mounts, 36, of Brunswick, was not cooperative. She was issued a citation into Brunswick Mayor's Court for open burning and released on scene. 3:16 p.m. — 3300 block of Center Road; one vehicle struck another after failing to yield. 4:19 p.m. — 1700 block of Pearl Road; a vehicle struck a business before rear-ending another vehicle. The driver left the scene before exchanging information and was cited for a hit-skip. 4:21 p.m. — Center Road/Town Center Boulevard; one vehicle rear-ended another. Saturday, April 15 1:58 p.m. — Main Street; an officer met with Cuyahoga Falls police and took custody of Jonathan Perry, 32, of Akron, who had a failure-to-appear warrant for driving under suspension. He was transported back to the station, where his wife posted his bond. He was released without incident. 4:37 p.m. — Grafton Road; one vehicle struck another. The vehicle that was struck spun around, left the roadway and struck a street sign and a mailbox before coming to rest on its side. 5:25 p.m. — 3800 block of Center Road; officers discovered three dogs inside a locked vehicle at Meijer. The owner, Karen Fernatt, 60, of Olmsted Township, returned to her vehicle approximately 30 minutes after police arrival. She was cited into Brunswick Mayor's Court for leaving animals unattended in a motor vehicle. 9:24 p.m. — Industrial Parkway; an officer observed a vehicle with its windows rolled down. Inside there was a man, who was later identified as Darryl Pariseau, 31, of Cleveland, passed out in the passenger seat. He began giving false information to the officer, police said. It was found he had a warrant for probation violation. He was issued a citation into Brunswick Mayor's Court for falsification and transported to the Medina County Jail to await further transport. Sunday, April 16 2:07 p.m. — 3700 block of Center Road; a Flock camera identified a vehicle to have an active warrant for its owner, Abdulhafizho Azkarov, 43, of Parma, for suspected felonious assault. The vehicle was located, and a traffic stop was conducted. He was taken into custody and transported to the Medina County Jail. 4:06 p.m. — 3800 block of Center Road; Meijer staff reported a shoplifting in progress and said the suspects were at the Meijer gas station. Vernard Brock, 29, of Akron, is accused of taking two aquarium heaters off the shelf and then returning them for a Meijer gift card. Police say he then used the gift card to buy gas and cigarettes at the Meijer gas station. He was taken into custody and transported to the Medina County Jail without incident. Monday, April 17 2:01 a.m. — 4200 block of Center Road; officers responded to a vehicle trespass complaint. On scene, it was learned that approximately three vehicles were left unsecured. The vehicles were left with the doors open, and it was apparent that the unknown assailants had gone through the passenger compartment of the vehicles. Contact was made with the vehicle owners and it was learned only $40 was taken from one of the vehicles. 2:42 a.m. — 1200 block of Pearl Road; officers patrolling the parking lot of an apartment complex located multiple vehicles with opened doors, trunks and glove boxes. Contact was made with some of the owners, and several of the owners said nothing appeared to be stolen. The owner of a vehicle with a smashed passenger window said a camera and camera equipment were stolen. 12:55 p.m. — 2900 block of Center Road; an employee of Crestmont Hyundai reported fraud. Unknown suspects attempted to purchase a vehicle from the dealership with fraudulent information. 3:30 p.m. — 3500 block of Center Road; officers responded to a report of a man slumped behind the wheel of a vehicle. Officers made contact with Tyler Hashman, 21, of Cleveland. Officers smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage, and he had slurred speech, bloodshot and glassy eyes and had trouble walking. He was transported to Brunswick Southwest and submitted to a urine test. He was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated, impeding traffic and open container, and was issued citations into Brunswick Mayor's Court. 4:47 p.m. — 1900 block of Pearl Road; one vehicle struck another after failing to yield. 6:09 p.m. — Center Road/Cross Creek Drive; a vehicle failed to yield while making a left turn and struck another vehicle. 11:06 p.m. — Tyler Drive/Taft Drive; police initiated a traffic stop for an equipment violation. Police initiated contact with the driver, Brian Arbutina, 39, of Bellville, who was found to have an outstanding misdemeanor warrant with the Holmes County Sheriff's Office. The warrant was for suspected domestic violence and was confirmed by Holmes County. He was transported to the Medina County Jail awaiting further transportation. The vehicle was turned over to his girlfriend. Tuesday, April 18 12:29 a.m. — Independence Drive; Brunswick police signed and sent over a warrant to the Medina County Sheriff's Office to be served to Jenessa Stamp, 31, of Richfield. Brunswick Hills police Wednesday, April 12 12:28 p.m. — Lonetree Court; a woman reported criminal mischief. Thursday, April 13 10:28 a.m. — Pearl Road/Boston Road; a head-on collision occurred. Monday, April 17 2:15 a.m. — Center Road/Pearl Road; officers initiated a traffic stop that resulted in a vehicle pursuit. The vehicle was suspected to be involved in the break-ins of multiple vehicles in Brunswick. Following the pursuit, the vehicle was last seen in Cleveland. Tuesday, April 18 9:39 p.m. — Grafton Road; officers were dispatched in reference to a neighbor dispute.
