One injured after garage fire in Brunswick Hills

BRUNSWICK HILLS TWP. — A man was injured in an attached-garage fire in a two-story residential home on Monday in Brunswick Hills Township, according to the Brunswick Hills Fire Department. Firefighters were dispatched to McCracken Trail at 5:07 p.m. after receiving a report that there were visible flames coming from the home. The Brunswick Division of Fire and the Hinckley Township Fire Department also were dispatched to the scene. A man was working on a vehicle in the garage at the time of the fire, and neighbors moved him across the street. First responders provided first aid to him as they arrived; he had second degree burns, firefighters said. The man was transported to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland by a Hinckley rescue squad. The man's name hasn't been released. The first engine arrived at 5:17 p.m. and started to contain the fire. Additional mutual aid was brought in due to the extent of the fire. At 5:36 p.m., the fire was under control, but first responders cooled hot spots for several more hours. No one else was injured in the fire. The state Fire Marshal's Office and the Medina County Fire Investigation Strike Force are still investigating the fire, but it appeared to be accidental, the Brunswick Hills Fire Department said. The Erhart/York, Medina, Strongsville and Valley City fire departments and the Brunswick Hills Police Department assisted on the scene. Gift cards for clothing, toiletries, gas and food for the displaced family can be dropped off at the Brunswick Hills Police Department or the Fair Trade Supply Co., 734 Pearl Road. Drop-offs at Fair Trade can be done during regular business hours until Saturday. It is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
