Thomas Albert Schaaf

Thomas Albert Schaaf went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Tom was born in Fremont on April 21, 1944. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Maribel; brothers, Bobby and John (Donna); son-in-law, Steve Decker (Kim) and nephew, Robert. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Nancy (nee Krassow); brother, Gary (Pat); daughters, Kim Decker and Lisa; son, Mike (Jennifer); granddaughter, Ashley; grandson, Luke; great-grandson, Landon, several nieces and nephews. He attended Fremont Ross High School and was married to Nancy, his high school sweetheart, in 1965. Tom and Nancy moved to Seville in 1970 when Tom was employed at PFI Displays, where he retired after 45 years of service in 2015. Tom had a passion for classic cars and motorcycles and enjoyed building his own Triumph motorcycle from the ground up in addition to a number of cars. Tom was an exceptional wood craftsman and could build anything out of wood, in addition to being a talented handyman. Tom was a devoted family man who could always be counted on to be at any sporting event for his kids, host and stand as lifeguard for neighborhood pool parties and volunteer as coach for his son, Mike's little league teams. He loved animals and his dog, Lexi misses him desperately, but his other dog, Daisy was waiting for him in heaven. He was a devoted Ohio State fan and always joked about going to OSU one day. He decided to donate his body to Ohio State for science and has already attended his first science class, fulfilling his dream. The family would like to extend a grateful thank you to Medina Hospital for their care and support, and Hospice of Medina for their outstanding care of Tom at the end of his life. A Celebration of Life memorial will be held Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Hawthorne Suites in Seville from 1 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that all donations be made to either Hospice of Medina or the Alzheimer's Association.
