1 dead, 1 hurt in two-vehicle crash in Canaan Township

CANAAN TWP. — One person died and another was seriously injured in a head-on crash Monday afternoon, authorities said. At 4:23 p.m., Canaan Township Fire Department and the State Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle crash on state Route 3 just north of Pleasant Home Road. The crash involved a black 2021 Kia Seltos driven by Raven N. Park, 31, of Seville, and a black 2007 Jeep Cherokee driven by Damon C. Hart, 33, of Chippewa Lake. It was found through the Highway Patrol's initial investigation that Hart was traveling south on state Route 3 as Park was traveling north. Hart's vehicle traveled left of center, striking Park's vehicle head-on. After impact, Park's vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway. Park was pronounced dead at the scene. Hart was transported by Canaan Township Fire Department to Akron General Hospital with life-threatening injuries. According to the Highway Patrol, both Park and Hart had their seat belts on. In addition to the Highway Patrol and the Canaan Township Fire Department, the State Highway Patrol Reconstruction Unit, Wayne County Coroner's Office and Ohio Department of Transportation assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation, but the patrol reported that alcohol did not seem to be a factor in the crash.
