Bomb threat made against Medina County Career Center, deemed not credible

MEDINA — A bomb threat made against the Medina County Career Center on Friday morning was determined by local law enforcement to not be credible. MCCC Superintendent Steve Chrisman said a call was received by the career center's switchboard operator at about 7:20 a.m. Friday. The person on the other end spoke in a muffled, computer-generated voice and said they had placed a bomb in the school the night before. He said Medina County sheriff's deputy and school resource officer Mike Snider spoke with the caller, asking specific questions about the school; the caller was unable to answer the questions. The Medina County Sheriff's Office and the Medina Police Department were on site, according to a Facebook post made by the sheriff's office. Law enforcement investigated school grounds, looked at the cameras and had a K-9 sweep the campus. Students were also put into a modified lockdown until the threat was deemed not credible. "We are truly grateful for our partnership with the Medina County Sheriff's Office and our partnership with the Medina City Police Department," Chrisman said. "We felt the entire time that we were in very good hands." On Dec. 12, apparently the same caller called the career center saying there was an intruder in the back of the building, he said. "In a similar fashion, when they were asked several questions that they should have been able to answer about the school, the individual was not able to answer them," he said. Chrisman said he shares and understands the concerns of parents and that safety is something the school takes seriously. "The No. 1 thing that people need to understand is the safety of our students and our staff is the most important thing to us in this district," he said.
