Myles Garrett has shoulder sprain, biceps strain, minor cuts after scary one-car accident

The one-car rollover accident of Myles Garrett could've been so much worse.The Browns' All-Pro defensive end sustained a shoulder sprain, biceps strain, cuts and bruises Monday afternoon when his Porsche went off the road and flipped multiple times in Medina County, but Garrett didn't sustain a concussion or any broken bones and hasn't been ruled out for the game Sunday against the Falcons in Atlanta."First — and most importantly — we are thankful that Myles, his passenger and no other parties were seriously injured in the single-car accident yesterday," general manager Andrew Berry said in a statement Tuesday night. "After medical evaluation today, our team doctors at University Hospitals have concluded that Myles has sustained a shoulder sprain, biceps strain, minor lacerations as well as some bumps and bruises to various other body parts. Myles didn't suffer any fractures and has also cleared concussion protocol."Currently, our focus is on providing Myles the medical care needed for him to return to football activity. Although we hope to have him back soon, his availability for Sunday's game in Atlanta will be evaluated by team doctors throughout the week."Video from minutes after the accident showed Garrett appearing dazed and with his right hand bloodied. He was released from an area hospital Monday night.Footage from the body camera of the Medina County Sheriff's Office showed first responders tending to Garrett in a field off State Road in Sharon Township, where the accident occurred around 3 p.m. after he had left Browns headquarters in Berea following a practice. He was heading south.Garrett, 26, was able to flex his right arm but said his biceps was sore. The first responders also checked his left upper arm, then led him as he walked to the ambulance.Garrett was with an unidentified female passenger, who also sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital, according to the Medina post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. In the video footage, she is checked as she lay on the ground. The Sheriff's Office blurred her face for privacy.An update on her condition wasn't known.The Ohio State Highway Patrol didn't have an update Tuesday on its investigation into the crash. The news release Monday said impairment from drugs or alcohol wasn't suspected, and Garrett and the passenger were wearing seatbelts,"While we are waiting to learn the extent of his injuries, he has been alert and responsive," Nicole Lynn, Garrett's agent, tweeted Monday night. "The Garrett family would like to thank the medical personnel that got Myles and his passenger out of the vehicle and safely transported to the hospital."The car was severely damaged and towed away.Browns players returned Monday from a long weekend after beating the Steelers on Thursday night. They had the normal off day Tuesday before practice was scheduled to resume Wednesday.Garrett (6-foot-4, 272 pounds) has 61.5 career sacks and is a half-sack from tying Clay Matthews for the official franchise record. In three games this season, Garrett has three sacks, five quarterback hits, seven tackles, a forced fumble and a pass defensed.The Browns (2-1) played without Jadeveon Clowney, the other starting defensive end, against the Steelers after he suffered an ankle injury Sept. 18 in a loss to the Jets. Clowney didn't practice Monday, but coach Kevin Stefanski didn't rule him out for the Falcons game.Without Clowney, the Browns had only one sack and two quarterback hits against Pittsburgh's Mitchell Trubisky. The Steelers rolled Trubisky away from Garrett and used double and triple teams to slow him.The Browns added depth at defensive end Tuesday, signing Curtis Weaver to the practice squad. He spent 2020 on the team's injured reserve and last year on the team's practice squad.Garrett has a history of speeding in Medina County.In traffic cases on the Medina Municipal Court website, complaints were filed Sept. 25 and 26 last year by the Ohio State Patrol. Garrett pleaded guilty to going 120 mph in the first incident and guilty to an amended speed of 99 mph in the second, both in zones where the speed limit was 70 mph.
