Brunswick, Brunswick Hills and Hinckley police blotter for Sept. 22

Brunswick police Tuesday, Sept. 13 11:36 a.m. — Hudak Drive; a woman reported identity theft. She said her personal information was used to access her bank account. There were fraudulent online issuance and attempted cashing of a check from her checking account. She filed a fraud complaint with her bank and is not out of money. She was provided an identity theft packet and has not noticed any further issues to any other accounts. There are no suspects. 3:16 p.m. — 3400 block of Center Road; Aryan Barnes, 38, of Brunswick, was yelling loudly and using profane language while he was walking through a parking lot. The lot was almost full and the high school girls cross country team was running by on a nearby sidewalk. An officer asked him about his disorderly conduct, and he refused to cooperate or identify himself. He was told he was under arrest and did not comply. He was wrestled to the ground to be put in handcuffs. He was found to be a wanted person. He was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest into Brunswick Mayor's Court. He posted bond and was released. 4:14 p.m. — 4000 block of Center Road; an iPhone was brought into the police station after being found at an intersection. The phone was placed in the hallway evidence lockers for safe keeping. 4:36 p.m. — Carolyn Drive; a woman reported fraudulent activity associated with her daughter's direct deposit paychecks from Big Lots. Since May 2022, her paychecks have been rerouted to a different account. Big Lots advised her to file a police report, and there are no known suspects. Thursday, Sept. 15 11:32 a.m. — state Route 303 and Interstate 71; one vehicle rear-ended another. 6:24 p.m. — Kingston Drive; animal control was called for a sick or injured raccoon. The raccoon was very lethargic, and its eyes were crusted shut. The raccoon was dispatched. 6:13 p.m. — Hadcock Road/Bramblewood Drive; one vehicle rear-ended another. 7:18 p.m. — Clearbrooke Drive; units were dispatched for multiple reports of a possible impaired driver in a black Dodge vehicle. Contact was made with the driver, Leonor Rivera, 53, of Brunswick, at which time she was noted to be impaired and admitted to consuming alcohol. She showed impairment on field sobriety tests. She was then taken into custody and transported to the Brunswick Police Department, where she provided a breath sample yielding 0.195 percent blood-alcohol content. She was issued a citation for having physical control of a motor vehicle while under the influence and was charged into Brunswick Mayor's Court. 8:31 p.m. — 400 block of Pearl Road; a deer was struck by a vehicle and dispatched. Saturday, Sept. 17 6:57 p.m. — 3800 block of Center Road; officers responded to Meijer in reference to a theft complaint. A woman was observed by employees taking flowers from the garden center and walking away without paying. Officers located Cassandra Dorfeld, 34, of Brunswick, and she admitted to the theft of the flowers. After speaking with Meijer employees, it was determined that Dorfeld also concealed Halloween items while inside Meijer. She was cited into Brunswick Mayor's Court for petty theft and released. Sunday, Sept. 18 11:43 a.m. — Laurel Road; a woman said approximately three days ago her checkbook, cellphone, PNC debit card and Ohio food stamp card were stolen from her by a man. 2:10 p.m. — Villa Casa Court; officers responded to the residence in reference to warrant service for Russell Pelouch, 50, of Brunswick, who had a felony warrant for larceny. He was later located, taken into custody, transported to the Medina County Jail and turned over without incident. Monday, Sept. 19 8:20 a.m. — Edgebrooke Drive; a sick or injured raccoon was secured and transported to the Animal Control building before being dispatched. 2:56 p.m. — 18000 block of Royalton Road; an officer responded to the Strongsville Police Department to arrest Danny Barb, 61, of Cleveland, on a Medina Municipal Court warrant for failure to appear. His original charge was from Brunswick Police for not having an operator's license. He was transported directly to the Medina County Jail, where he was turned over without incident. Tuesday, Sept. 20 2:37 a.m. — South Carpenter Road; contact was made with Madelynne Schneider, 21, of Independence, and Ashley Baus, 23, of Brunswick, who were seated in a vehicle. A strong odor of burnt marijuana was detected coming from inside the vehicle. They admitted to smoking marijuana, and marijuana and a smoking device were recovered from inside the vehicle. Both were issued citations for drug abuse and released on scene. 12:44 a.m. — Pinecrest Drive; an intoxicated man fell and possibly injured himself in his driveway. James Dusina, 48, of Brunswick, was located in his residence and became uncooperative with EMS and police. He was told he was being arrested and resisted arrest. He was eventually arrested on obstructing official business and resisting arrest charges. He was transported to the Medina County Sheriff's Office for incarceration. Brunswick Hills Thursday, Sept. 15 2:41 p.m. — Congressional Avenue; police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that went through a red light at the intersection of Substation and Center roads. Police seized marijuana from the vehicle, and the driver was issued multiple citations. 8:31 p.m. — Pearl Road/Chestnut Avenue; a vehicle struck a deer. Friday, Sept. 16 5:12 p.m. — Stag Thicket Lane; police spoke with a female resident in reference to telecommunications harassment. The harassing party was advised to cease contact with the reporting party. 5:16 p.m. — 5200 block of Center Road; one vehicle rear-ended another. Monday, Sept. 19 9:06 a.m. — Sleepy Hollow Road/West 130 Street; one vehicle struck another while making a wide turn. 8:03 p.m. — Sleepy Hollow Road; police responded to a dog bite complaint. Hinckley Thursday, Aug. 11 1:28 p.m. — Ridge Road/Ledge Road; an officer responded to an accident. A pistol belonging to one of the drivers was secured for safekeeping. The driver was transported to an area hospital and given instructions to retrieve her firearm at a later time. Friday, Aug. 12 8:38 p.m. — Ridge Road/Bellus Road; a woman was tending to an injured baby raccoon. She said she witnessed the raccoon get struck by another vehicle. She wanted to take it to a rescue center but was advised that the raccoon was suffering. The raccoon was then dispatched. Thursday, Aug. 18 8:49 a.m. — Wakefield Run Boulevard; dispatch advised an officer of a fraud complaint reported by an employee of KeyBank. KeyBank personnel said they were investigating a theft of $10,000 by means of fraud, and the victim was located in Hinckley. A report was generated with an investigation to follow. Saturday, Aug. 20 10:39 a.m. — 2500 block of Ridge Road; a complainant wanted to report that a building he owned had been broken into. Officers observed that the building had been forcibly entered. Further investigation indicated that an additional building had also been broken into. Photographs were obtained, and two items that were located in the yard were taken for evidentiary purposes. Friday, Aug. 26 7:23 p.m. — 2600 block of Center Road; one vehicle struck another in a T-bone manner. Sunday, Aug. 28 5:53 p.m. — Center Road/Stony Hill Road; officers were dispatched in reference to a crash with possible injuries. After a crash investigation, one driver was found to be impaired and was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. She was also transported to the Cleveland Clinic for possible injuries. Monday, Aug. 29 3:17 p.m. — Valley Brook Boulevard; dispatch advised an officer of a 40-year-old man who was not breathing and was possibly overdosing. Life-saving measures were implemented by police until Hinckley EMS arrived on scene to take over. The man was transported by ambulance to Cleveland Clinic in Brunswick. 5:28 p.m. — David Drive; dispatch advised police of a disturbance at a residence where the caller's son was slamming his feet, knocked a door off the wall and talking to himself. Officers arrived on scene and through further investigation found the son to be on some sort of narcotic. He agreed to seek medical treatment and was transported to the Medina Cleveland Clinic for evaluation. Thursday, Sept. 1 5:04 p.m. — 1400 block of Bellus Road; a woman went to the police station to report one of her residents threatened to kill her. She wished for the incident to be documented not for prosecution. She asked for an officer to speak with the resident and issue a warning about making threats.
